Sérgio Conceição Nationality: Portugal Current Job: FC Porto Head Coach Age: 44 -Sounds like this man knows how to get teams to punch above their weight and for relatively top dogs, to punch appropriately. -Hidden gem. -KFA, put him on your shortlist. -Young https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sérgio_Conceição
Juan Antonio Pizzi is free. He'll be way better as a manager for us than for Saudi Arabia. If KFA would actually spend some money, he and the KNT could actually be a killer combo.
KFA, please offer a contract to Juan Antonio Pizzi. FC Seoul should appoint Paulo Bento as new coach. Thank you
If hell freezes over and Pep Guardiola offers to coach KNT, would you reject him because he lacks national team coaching experience? I'm not saying Conceição is as accomplished as Pep right now, but my point is that his achievements are enough to mitigate lack of international management experience. That's racist.
Who cares? The club game is ahead of the int'l game by this point. Also, if Conceicao's trajectory continues he won't be realistic. He probably isn't already tbh.
Doing well in a club team doesn't mean you'll do well in an an international job and vice versa. And the amount of pressure and expectations on a coach to do well is a lot higher for national teams. It's also way easier to be sacked as a national team manager than as a club manager because national team managers are judged based on far fewer games than club managers, and so you need to do very well in the few amount of competitive games you have or you might get the sack. And if the board randomly decides that they don't like you anymore (JFA board to Halilhodzic), they could sack the manager regardless of how bad the timing is (sacking Halilhodzic extremely close to the world cup). A manager who has had experience dealing with all that is a lot less risky choice and they would know how to deal with all the rigor that comes with the national team job.
It actually matters. You dont train together all the time when u lead a NT... and you are expected to make results even after 2-3 friendlies. There are a lot of managers who are great at managing clubs but really bad at managing NTs.
I don't think it's true at all that pressure and expectations are higher for nat'l teams than they are for clubs. Oscar Tabarez has been at Uruguay for over a decade. Joachim Loew still has a job despite Germany's dismal performance. Can you imagine Liverpool or Man City's manager staying on if their teams finished as badly as Germany did? (And were then relegated?) I think expectations are lower for nat'l teams for the reasons you say. Int'l football is more of a lottery. You're right that it makes a different beast than club football, but I think you're wrong in saying that the skills are very hard to transfer. I don't really see much evidence that club managers struggle to adapt to int'l roles. What I see is good managers doing well wherever they are. Lack of int'l experience wasn't a hindrance for Del Bosque, Conte, Roberto Martinez, Zaccheroni, Chris Coleman, etc to transition from clubs to nat'l teams. If a decent Prem manager like Javi Gracia was somehow an option for KNT, would you really turn him down simply because he has no int'l experience?
Such as...? I'm looking at the managers at the 2018 WC, and I don't see a single manager who was a successful club manager and poor at the int'l level. I see a lot of coaches who turned to int'l jobs after their club careers went south, like Pizzi, Hector Cuper, Roberto Martinez. If a manager was "great at managing clubs", he would still be employed by a club.
You don't know that. You'd think he'd be a better fit for us after what he's done with Chile, he'll do no different with us, jump ship once failing to qualify for the WC, we don't need sellouts like him.
Gattuso has the temperament but no way will he last because of it. Aside from Conte and Allegri, the one Italian manager whom I have no objections to managing our team will have to be Spalletti. All a pipe dream of course.
I don't mind Montella, in fact I was content when the rumors of him and the KNT job were floating around, but the rest not so much. Still though, there's a hefty list to go through, I mean even Sarri is up there.
Pizzi is a joke. He was a disaster with the Chilean NT. And also, Chile didnt win the Copa America Centerario because of him... they won because they had a golden generation of players who were playing at their peak.
TBF, Saudi players generally seem to possess good technique. Though I'm sure that's not sufficient to build a team around Barcelona approach.
