Yeah. HIB could've easily just not done contract talks with Whitecaps if he didn't have any interest in going to that club.

Hwang In-beom on why his dream move to Europe fell through: "There were teams in Europe that showed interest. There was also a team that made a concrete offer, but I was never going to think selfishly and just chase my personal goal. I needed to respect the standard of the club."— Steve Han • 한만성 (@realstevescores) February 10, 2019
That doesn't make any sense. Him going to Hamburg is the less selfish move isn't it? If he's referring to how much money his club was going to get, then he's putting Daejeon Citizen over the Korean National Team.
at the same time Daejeon could probably really use the money. I am not supporting his move to the MLS but the K league is not the most stable league financially in the world. If I were to blame anyone, it would be the Korean fans (or lack of) and clubs approach in marketing. But even the crappiest ran leagues in the world can be stable if they have a loyal fan base. Lot of our problems can be solved if the Korean ppl actually gives a crap. That is one reason why i get pissed at Korean's who say that they are football fans but dont care about our league.
Why not grow some balls and tell the club to f*ck off then? We can point the finger at the agents and clubs who clearly don't give any sh*ts about the players interests, but ultimately, HIB could have stopped the move and gone to Europe. The clubs and their brass clearly don't respect you, so why respect them. ..Dumb respecting the elder and ajusshi at all costs bs. I'd slap that agent if I was HIB.
This directly contradicts what we've heard from other sources: In January, Hamburg offered $1m (USD) to Daejeon for Hwang In-beom. Daejeon's asking price for Hwang was $1.5m, which Hamburg couldn't meet, not because they didn't value the player highly enough, but because of their budget constraints. Vancouver came in with a $1.8m offer.— Steve Han • 한만성 (@realstevescores) February 6, 2019 Hwang In-beom's intention was always to give Daejeon, his hometown club that raised him, the biggest financial return. He could've easily sat on Vancouver's offer to try to force a move a Europe, but he not only wanted to respect Daejeon, but also felt a move to MLS is appealing.— Steve Han • 한만성 (@realstevescores) February 6, 2019 Also, if both he and his family were so adamantly against going to Vancouver, why would his mom and brother agree to fly out there? Doesn't add up. He could've waited until the summer window to join a newly-promoted Hamburg in the Bundesliga. If this deal actually shook out as reported, what a shitshow.

as a casual soccer fan being anonymous on a public forum ... HIB could be some sort of trailblazer for soccer players in the AFC countries good enough to make the u23 olympic soccer team... it seems nice being a professional athlete... if he's good enough to make the u23 olympic team, at the olympics they'll eventually have to face a team from CONCACAF countries, if teams from AFC countries place 3rd or 4th place.. if i remember correctly japan was about 60 minutes away from a silver medal in 2012 against mexico... i can imagine either in the near future or decades from now another team from the AFC countries medaling at olympics on a side note, its good to see more players from the AFC countries playing in North America
