The Vietnam friendly should be the start of a new chapter. Bento should call up LKI, PSH, JWY, and a handful of new players. It's not essentially that they are getting playing time at their clubs. It's not essential that LKI and other newbies get playing time against Vietnam. Just seeing them in camp with his own eyes should give Bento a good sense of the new players and their potential role in the national squad. If Bento fails to do this then I would seriously consider getting a new helmer ASAP.
These new 96/97 (HIB, KMJ, HHC, NSH) boys don't have half the substance about them compared to the 88/89 (LCY, KSY, KJC) guys when they were the same age. It's actually amazing that guys like LCY KSY KJC made direct jumps from K-league to Europe before 22 yrs of age.
He probably thought he had to adjust his philosophy after being criticized for his previous failures. He now talks a lot about thoroughly controlling games and controlling possession to produce as many chances as possible. That definitely doesn't seem to be what he was thinking with Portugal in 2014, while it's fairly clear imo that it was his philosophy going in to this Asian Cup with us. He also didn't set up the team in a 4-2-3-1 in 2014 iirc.
It's not just the fact that he needs a manager who knows how to utilize him properly, but he needs a reliable partner or at least the right players that can help him get lot's of scoring opportunities as well(Lee Keun-ho did a decent job at that). When Son is being man marked by roughly 4-5 players whilst his teammates aren't doing squat/failing to help drawing out defenders, he becomes ineffective and useless that he constantly tries too hard to do everything himself/be a one man army that it's frustrating too see him constantly drag his runs long when he should be shooting instead, or trying to take on defenders by end up running into them as if he ran into a closed door. This is why we're seeing him have a hard time against AFC teams, or teams that constantly park the bus, and it doesn't help when the others are doing just as bad in their respective roles. It's good that he likes to help out his teammates with defense and what not, but he shouldn't be wasting all of that energy on covering the defense just because an idiot like Jung Woo-young made a stupid pass/lost the ball/ lost his man due to poor man marking that the likes of Ki or Son or whoever the teammates are having to cover for his sorry ass.
The easier explanation is, Son is great at attacking space, but not at creating space. Tad like Muller in this regards. But how he attack it is a different thing.
Kim Pan Gon should keep an eye on Choi Soon Ho. He is a good candidate to take over KNT should something happen to Bento & co.
Kim Seung Joon----Hwang Eui Jo----Moon Seon Min Han Chan Hee----Son Joon Ho Park Joo Ho Kim Jin Ya-----Kwon Kyung Won-----Kim Min Hyeok-----Kim Moon Hwan Cho Hyun Woo vs. Vietnam. Want to test out players playing in AFC clubs
Who wouldve thought that LCY was going to last the longest out of those 3. Wow. And now it's officially the new generation. PSH better step it up.
I don't think we need a big generational change per se and we aren't even capable of doing so with our talent pool. We have a young core and don't have any youngsters who can immediately fill in for our weaker positions (FB, CDM, ST). It is the new generation imo simply because KSY was the last undisputed starter in our current squad from the 2010 WC, PJS era. KYK and JWY are the only two players from the 2012 Olympics that are still on our roster, and both of them are still under 30. I hope Bento does start testing a few younger players out though. Mainly LKI and PSH since they've broken into adult football.
Son Heungmin-Kwon Changhoon-Lee Seungwoo Lee Kangin Paik Seungho-CM/DM A box to box CM that has a good workrate and defensive skill could play beside Paik. Maybe Kim Jungmin but I just hope they don't become another Ki-Koo pairing.
moondog on youtube suggested KCH as a left back to bomb up and join the attack, since we have such little options otherwise. i don't hate it and it's worth trying out over voltaire's definition of madness. and he dropped a hot take: leave SHM on the bench as a super sub
Kwon's a natural left-footed player, right? It would make sense, and I agree. I think it's worth trying. Kid is athletic enough to play LB. SHM on the bench as a super sub? No, lol. Simply no.
HIB leaves a comment on KSY's retirement post, and KSY replies with, "stay in Vancouver briefly and come to Europe".
could be the case but even in his brief stint as KNT manager, the only time Korea dominated possession was in Asian Cup, against minnows who decided to bunker from start. in the friendlies (albeit.. against superior opposition on paper at least), it wasn't the case... even against Australia (52>48) & Saudi Arabia (49<51) edit - so far, Korea is only dominating possession when opposition teams simply sit back & allow Korea to have possession.
