I've came up with an idea but I feel like military exemption shouldn't be based on Asian games/Olympics but a comprehensive criteria/point system based on NT performances and European club career. But how this works is something I can't really come up with but it'll be good if some expert came up with it (backed by the government of course).

I searched for this a few months ago and it doesn't appear to be 100% clear to anyone, but he did leave the country before he turned 18 and he did finish high school in Korea, so he's not subject to the same social services corollaries that applied to SHM that forced him to report by age 27. Best guess from reading the various regulations and legal blogs is that he is taking advantage of some laws that allow those who leave the country before age 18 to take advantage of various foreign residency extensions that would allow one to theoretically extend until age 37, although this would have required him to apply for some sort of foreign travel extension in 2016 in the year he turned 25. Had he not done that before 2016, he wouldn't even be able to enter Korea so I am assuming that is what he did.

Worth noting that when he was directly asked about this last year he said he couldn't comment on it, prob as a pending legal matter.

The Asian Cup defeat was inevitable, as we were in the overdue end of the KNT cycle. It's the reason for the WC winner curse, their NTs rely on the same core, only 4 years older and more fatigued. Most of our guys' primes were ~4-6 years ago, it's the lack of players in the generation in between KJC, KSY, LCY and LKI, LSW, PSH that doomed us. Literally the only guys in between are LJS and KCH and they've barely even featured.

here's a dissection of the AC squad and what their futures should be (imo) with the NT
    THANK YOU NEXT:
    goalkeepers:
KSG: never a convincing no.1 and only going to get worse with age
KJH: supposedly good with feet but has too many disaster performances to be relied upon
CHW: the only time I felt like I could trust the goalkeeper to keep us in the game, but too small of a sample and can't kick the ball.

    defenders:
KMJ: promising but overrated, can ping the ball but can't build up. he isn't going to get any better in China
    KKW: what has he done??
HC & KJS: just not good enough
LY: he was identified as a weak link after 2014 WC and he's still here??

    midfielders:
KSY, KJC, LCY: still our best players and the potential used to be so high with this core but the ceiling just keeps crashing lower. idg why ppl are disrespecting them on this board though, injuries and club circumstances limited them (out of their own control)
JWY, JSJ: no class, no dynamism

    forwards:
HUJ: he's a good striker for Asian league standard. International level he's just wasteful and limited

    KEEP FOR NOW:
KYG: has been looking decent for us since the WC, hopefully won't be too old by 2022 and need his experience
JSH: has looked OK when he plays and only 24, needs to be tested more
KMH: for me, too much of a ball-watcher and poor positionally but has highest potential for a RB that we've seen in a long time
HIB: he's young and shown enough to keep him in NT fray, hopefully can move to Europe soon
LJS: good player but not someone to build around
HHC: frustrating as sht but one of few KNT players that can create something from nothing and has a refreshing mentality. ideal role a supersub
    LSW: needs more PT
NSH: I think he has potential
JDW: man's hasn't been healthy but he looked good for Bento in the first friendlies. I think if Ji can have a stretch of good health he can be a key player

    STAR PLAYERS:
SHM: looks like sht when he tries to be like messi, we desperately need LSW and/or LKI to break through so they do the creating while Son focuses on scoring.

    WISHLIST:
    -reintegration of KCH
-tall, physical defensive mids (all our prospects are midgets!)
    -consistent GK with good feet
    -no injuries for our prospects
-better scouting of players by KFA
    -a good LB

I raised this before in the past. But more and more, I think he may be pursuing an exemption for being a sole breadwinner for his family as he only has his dad who may be his dependent.

I was actually wondering if Bento ought to use 4-3-3- with KCH as CM

Here's the deal. We will continue to suck unless we overhaul our footballing infrastructure starting from the K-league. How do we expect to have a good national team when our league averages 4000 people per match? When our youth system is lightyears behind Japan? Just expect Hyundai to pour money into the KFA? KBO is popular af but companies like LG are still taking a loss on their teams. We cannot compete like this. Hell, it's a miracle we have even produced players like PJS, SHM, KSY, LCY, etc. We can't continuously rely on one player like PJS to create miracles for us. We need to create some sort of philosophy and system that works for us.

Also, we can't continuously fire and hire different managers who all have different football philosophies. One year the team's playing stupid ass tiki taka and the next we play counter. How tf are the players going to get used to that? Find something that suits our identity and follow up with managers, domestic or foreign, that can find success using a similar play style. It also pisses me off how we have to play possession ball when most of our players are playing fcking rumble tumble fighter ball in the k-league. Japan will always be better in the AFC bc they can make use of long possession, unlike us.

Well Bento actually talked about possession being one of his priorities multiple times in his interviews. There's no doubt that working on build up is a good thing, but I don't think it's accurate at all to say that Bento doesn't want to play possession football. He definitely wants to play possession football and has been pretty open about it from the beginning:

Bento has been saying that he wants to build a team that controls games, controls possession, and creates as many chances as possible. And that's really exactly how he set the team up this tournament. He was playing a risk-averse 4-2-3-1 that was intended to dominate possession against parked buses and stifle them defensively.

Working on build up is great, but Bento just wasn't doing it right this tournament. He packed the midfield against parked buses, but the team failed to create anything down the middle. Most of our attack happened through our fullbacks down the flanks because we could not build up through the middle at all. What's the point of building up from the back if you can't do anything centrally and have to rely on your horribly bad fullbacks to create chances literally every time you attack? It's unfortunate, but the fact is that our opposing teams identified and exploited major weaknesses in Bento's system while Bento did nothing to fix those holes. They were basically playing rope-a-dope and inviting us to build up through our fullbacks... and that's exactly what we did all tournament long. I'm all for working on building up from the back, but this isn't how it should be done.

agreed on this bold part. players were also an issue. the 3 "fit" mids weren't good enough. the biggest disappointment is Hwang IB for me, as he was more or less the "offensive" minded one to create something through the middle. another issue, for me.. was Hwang UJ. the guy plays off the shoulders of last defender. offers literally nothing in the build up & really poor in tight space. in the air? again, literally nothing. in J League, he was rated the worst in the air & in post play in general. not the right guy to lead the front line when the opposition does nothing but pack the box (along w/ Korean FBs being worthless).

Sack him after one year and hire STY just to get qualified for the WC, hire KHB, get fked, rinse and repeat? I doubt he will get sacked anyway unless we get disqualified for WC, considering KPG emphasized Bento will succeed if they give him full 4 years multiple times in the past.

KFA seriously needs to think about what style fits our NT the most and build from there.. Look at Japan. Every single manager that they hire tries to fit into their team philosophy.

I wonder if Bento will call up LKI and BSH for friendlies and early WCQ if they continue to get first team game time. If KSY isn't retiring, I'd like to see this against Vietnam:

    SHM
    HHC-LJS-KCH
    KSY-PSH
    KJS-KYK-KMJ-KMH

You guys just need to stop building team around SHM. Read here a pages back or in another thread, someone said SHM is an excellent sidekick, but not the best man to run the show. Couldn't agree more. For now, building team around KCH i think is the best bet.

Agreed but wanna see LKI at least as a sub. LKI is gonna be close to HHC/LJS level in a year or two.

on Bento & possession football.. i guess he constantly stated he wants to dominate possession as @doraemon mentioned. at the same time, I can't remember his teams actually giving a crap about possession as much as he states. i looked through the stats from past games he managed & mostly, it was 50/50 or below 50% in possession (especially against teams that are better against Portugal). for me, this is the game that epitomizes & mostly remember Bento as manager before he managed Korea

pretty much one man team (Ronaldo) & defended once they scored the 1st goal.. allowing US (pretty much was forced to bunker except in this game based on my memory in 2014) to get back into the game.

I always believed KCH to be a more influential player than SHM. I don't mean better, just more influential.

Dude changes a team just by his presence, see Dijon now and before.

SHM will stay useless if he keeps playing as a playmaker.
