That was Sophie's choice. Weighing multiple variables in one guy's favor vs. another in the other's. Ultimately went with Geoff Cameron. He's out with an ankle injury now, but it's not long-term. Slated to return next month. I couldn't imagine him being available next rd though. The alternative there's an outside chance. Going FTW.
Already second guessing the pick, not because I don't think Cameron is value there, but complementing my roster, comparative need, and questionable alternatives at some other positions. It'll be interesting to see when the other player I was having a dilemma over, and had written in initially, comes off the board. Another player I could see major variation in opinion on. Was anybody else contemplating taking Geoff in the subsequent picks? I feel his success in the Championship has been under the radar. Admittedly I stopped tracking him because of the age and with the USNT youth movement in full effect.
It’s a risky pick, considering his recent injury history. That said, we all know what Cameron can do. Overall, I think you have a good squad, but the high risk, high reward picks will either make or break you. On defense, there is just so much talent there that CB has been a low priority for us.
I'll probably employ him at cdm, maybe even the 8/6. That is where he's played this year, he looked the best by a good margin at Stoke, and in a small sample for the national team. But if I see another cdm I can't resist I'll pull the trigger and probably move him deeper. I thought I've played it on the safe side instead of taking a youth teamer or someone with a long-term injury. They're short-term injuries. Unless they aggravate them to be out for an extended period actually, it shouldn't preclude them from eligibility. Everybody is subject to missing a few for taking a knock. That's football. Geoff is scheduled for a return soon. Fabian is day-to-day.
Some clips of Corey Baird who Matthew just took. Was definitely a candidate for my next pick. 2018 @MLS Rookie of the Year!Congrats, @bairdy_23! pic.twitter.com/ostlK0xYWv— Real Salt Lake (@realsaltlake) November 5, 2018 Saucedo doubles the lead! #RSLvNE pic.twitter.com/7G6fw349ZJ— Major League Soccer (@MLS) October 19, 2018 Here is your #RSL stat of the day. When Corey Baird plays, RSL scores every 58.6 minutes. When he is not on the field the team is scoring a goal every 84.6 minutes. #RSLStats— Charles Barnard (@ccb1212) August 24, 2018
I’m a big fantasy sports player and one thing I’ve learned is to always draft guys based on what they will do for you and not what they have done in the past. Sometimes, I win it all, sometimes I’m absolutely terrible, and sometimes, I do well the regular season and then Andrew Luck and George Kittle have their worst games of the year and Phillip Lindsay breaks his hand and I get creamed in the semifinals (but I’m not bitter) But I’ve never been afraid to take chances. At this point, Carleton has some struggles with the ordinary. His passing isn’t as consistent as it should be, he’s not great defensively, and at times, his work rate just isn’t high enough. But his vision, creativity, and finishing are at a very high level. I love the idea of him springing Amon down the flank or combining with Soto in and around the area. I know he’s the black sheep of the pool right now but I think people overreact to the kind of mistakes he made. All it takes is some hard work and good performances in a few games and he’s back on track. From his instagram, it looks like he’s learned a valuable lesson. He’s leaner, working harder in training, and appears to be taking soccer seriously. I’m buying into his new dedication. Even though Atlanta is stockpiling attackers, I believe talent finds a way to force itself onto the field and I expect him to very early in the season. Tbh, again, he wasn’t my first choice. But there are so few players capable of playing the 10 in the pool that I felt like it was worth the gamble.
Damnit. An infiltrator comes into the picks thread and brings up a player a few probably were keeping tabs on. Now a number will likely be thinking about that player. FFS part of this game is getting players others may not be targeting or even aware of.
I don’t think we should make a bigger deal about this than it is. I mean, we have a thread called USMNT Player Pool for the 2022 Cycle Hell, @Eleven Bravo posted a player list that I’m using for the draft...
I'm pissed given I pick #10 but show respect for this process and game. People like me with lower picks rely on players exactly like who was mentioned falling to them who might have slipped passed the attention of others.
I don't think it's a huge deal either honestly everyone on here is pretty aware of the player pool, I don't think any player is "forgotten about" by many
More telling was how the disclosure was reacted to by those who are actually in the game, not the reveal of the player itself.
As usual, I am lurking ready to take over and make bad picks for the team that drops out This draft has kind of depressed me so far, with completely unproven guys going really high...the lack of the current pool is just meh. I enjoyed @Mr Martin updates on risers/fallers in the past so I decided to do it. No draft held in 2018, so it's been 2 years, but damn things change quickly. So many guys on the list 2017 are just barely playing or completely history. Also just a cursory look says @thedukeofsoccer did very well early 2017, while @AutoPenalti ability to judge high end youth talent might be surprisingly underrated. Through Round 6 (almost,71 picks), 19 (wow, 27%) of the picks this year were UNDRAFTED 2 years ago. They are: A.Robinson 15 S.Dest 19 J.Amon 20 A.Novakovich 21 A.Mendez 23 R.Ledezma 24 A.Long 25 R.Gall 27 G.Bello 29 D.Dwyer 31 K.Saief 39 S.Soto 44 D.Holmes 47 C.Baird 54 D.Mihailovic 57 C.Kelman 59 M.McKenzie 62 C.Richards 65 G.Busio 67 I've gotta believe that's the highest % at this point for undrafted guys in these drafts. Top 10 Risers: K.Parks + 201 E.Sabbi +190 J.Sargent +179 C.Durkin + 168 R.Cannon +162 T.Weah +159 P.Pomykal +147 N.Taitigue +143 Z.Steffen +129 R.Canouse + 113 Top 10 Fallers: G.Zusi -18 M.Besler -21 D.McCarty -21 L.Ngyuen -24 F.Johnson -25 M.Bradley -26 A.Bedoya -30 M.Hedges -36 G.Cameron -42 J.Morris -62
When you mentioned it, I decided to look back at the 2017 squad that I drafted and I feel like I was pretty spot on in terms of potential like you mentioned except 2 retired and 4 kinda just disappeared. The ones that have remained relevant that have been picked up early in the draft are Steffen, Yedlin, Adams, Trapp, Wood, Weah, Sargent. That was essentially 30% of my 23-man squad.

My criteria was about a 6-9 month window after the draft, to treat it like a typical fantasy league (which whenever I play on occasion I'm always at or near the top of). Give a chance for players to get their stock up to separate from the rest of the pack. Otherwise it's just a crapshoot or beauty in the eye of beholder thing. I would have drafted Novakovich, for example, too, late, but I didn't think he was going to play on a 1st team. So I just went with a guy I didn't even like much in Femi, but I thought was going to get a shot after being taken in the expansion draft by Minnesota. But they just sent him back. This time late I'm just going to pick guys I think are going to materialize into something in the future because it's more fun. But early it doesn't make sense to me because there are more than enough players who already have materialized into something. I think all the youth player selections already is about half a reflection on the pool and half who is making the selections. There's always been some of that idealism involved.
Hi @Matthew Hartman, Please refrain from naming players who have yet to come off the board, this ruins the game for everybody else who hasn’t had a chance to pick after you.
Another plus about Alvarado -- he can play left back and has even started there in a match, serviceably, for Necaxa in Liga MX. Good pick.
I've always liked Alvarado and felt he got a bad wrap. Solid defender, comfortable in possession, good pick.
