So, we are now less that 2 months from the first game and I haven't heard a single word about training, where when dates location possible friendlies etc. I was 3 weeks in Italy between the end of november and december, maybe I have missed it entirely?
In case many of you have missed it more than 90% of the comments across most social media platforms are negative about this Flo streaming crap. So maybe my "old guy style" is not the only group having an issue with this colossal faux pas.
Preseason training starts in DC later this month. I think thereafter DCU goes to Clearwater, Florida for a while. Nothing specific about preseason games.
Looking at the android app, it looks like streaming to chromecast isn't yet implemented. I'll have to look into other options to get the game on a screen bigger than my phone. Also, I see that there's a discount for season ticket members, but there are 4 households on my account and I'm curious if multiple people can use the same account number... I'll have to ask my rep. In any case, I'm sure that I'll get used to this for watching at home once I've figured out the answers to these questions. My biggest issue with a streaming service for games is that for away game I frequently will meet up with a friend or two at a nearby bar and ask them to put one of the TVs on the game. This will likely mean the end of that for games that are on FloSports, and that's a shame for me, the bar's revenue, and any patrons that might have seen the game and become a fan. Some of the official watch party bars might pick up the service (I wonder if there's a different fee structure for bars, etc.) but none of these are near my home.
This will change too. Remember when Summers was the only game in town for EPL games Saturday morning. Businesses will adapt.
90 per cent of all comments on social media are negative. Note that season ticket holders and members of Barra, DU and SE get a reduced rate ($5.99/month) for the service. I'm willing to give this a try, the last years under Sinclair were just awful. When you think about broadcast rights, the options for DCU were NBCSW -- 3rd priority behind Caps, Wizards (and sometimes CTE preseason football). MASN, a non-starter and a cluster******** fight between the Lerners and Angelos and, what else? You Tube TV?
I'd rather Flo Sports than Youtube TV. LAFC fans have to pay $40/month to watch their English broadcasts. Sure you get other content but if you already have another option for cable/streaming then you are paying for double.
That paltry discount will not get people to buy this crap service if the tea leaves are true. 8 months times $6 a month is $48. No one will be willing to shell out a little over $50 for this two bit crap. Sorry but it would have been better to accept being third banana on NBCSW or the crap that MASN is than this fiasco. This thing is gonna blow up in their faces so bad it will be epic.
Did someone come and confiscate your horse and make you pay for a car even though you don't live near any streets and the car comes with no gas or way to get gas? I can still ride a horse down the street if I want - they do all the time out by me. You analogy fails, but keep trying, I'm sure you'll get it right sooner or later.
After reading all the details the streaming deal doesnt suite me either. Im not a season ticket holder or a member of any of the supporters groups. But I will find a way. It might actually force me to cut the cable because i have been waffling too.
I joined DU last year just to show solidarity with their predicament. I think its $20 for a membership. Compare the discount versus full price for FloSports to see if that is cost effective. I don't know the dues for either Barra or SE, however.
So we did the same thing, when whole bruhaha kicked up over the SGs and haven't regretted it a bit. We knew a couple memebers, so that was why we chose DU over Barra. No other reason. We went to a couple tail gates, the Ultra's helped us w/some social media for fund raising for the Epilepsy Foundation. We'll prolly take a road trip this year as we've reupped. Money well spent IMO.
Oh yes everyone who knows me knows I never embrace new technology....................oh wait I work in IT so maybe I do embrace it but know bad technology when I see it................maybe that is it.
I think the issue is you're rather self centered, and you assume any solution or approach that doesn't specifically work for you, or conform to your particular preferences, is not good.
When you say you 'work in IT'... do you mean you install and instruct people on how to use an abacus?
As much as I think this is premature and a generally bad move in terms of marketing, let's face it - the old model for local sports broadcasting is failing, and it can't support tweeners like DC United anymore. Sure, the optimal option is to get it on a cable channel that's broadcast OTA with a competent technical crew. To be fair, we've tried that, and it has actually been pretty craptastic at times - embarrassingly, clown-car craptastic. At some point if you can't do it well, you're better off not doing it at all. We crossed that line like George Washington majestically crossing the Delaware. Everything else is paywalling of a kind, whether that's in your cable bill or paying for a streaming service. Almost everyone has internet, but there are dozens of cable providers and packages, and that means your product availability will be segmented and limited. So there's a method to the madness, of sorts. I think the decision to go with Flo could pay off handsomely or fail miserably, but in either case, they're going to have to put aside all that money they're saving by not producing and distributing the product for free and market like they mean it. The game is the best advertisement for the team, league and sport. Not making it generally available could really hurt us in the long run.
If you digest very little content and the diversity of content you view is limited then streaming is especially awesome. At the other end of the spectrum you’re at best getting moderate savings and increased hassle of content rotations, companies gaining and losing streaming rights and on and on. It may be you end up paying more depending on your interests.
