We signed Olsen through 2059 and we signed away our TV watching fans. Ownership must be very optimistic about the future of the club.

What happened to that billionaire with his pharma dollars? Is he busy buying up Wu Tang album rights too?

there is one small positive out of this: folks in the stadium seats will be actually be able to watch broadcast instant on - replays that the team refuses to show on the jumbotron.

(for the bouncy side folks its not really practical to have a tablet out during the game, but for the quiet siders and nosebleed residents, its a doable option...)

The big positive for me is that I won't be blacked out anymore. More people will be able to watch via media, as opposed to in the stadium. Some will argue that's not a good thing. Long term it is. Also, streaming is the future of sports delivery. It's a disruptive medium currently. The real question is how much more/less is DC making off the deal versus previous versions.

I'll pay $5 a month to watch away games. More than that and I'm out. I pay $5 for ESPN+ to watch the rest of the league and I find it to be a good value for my entertainment time.

Under the impression there will be no Android service.
So, this deal is a non-starter for many of us.
Wont be buying an ipad so I can watch dcu games.

Most smart TVs use a flavor of android. If they allow for on demand viewing you can watch at home. If not there is always chrome cast.

I've never had trouble viewing Flosports streams in Chrome on Android phones.

There's a Roku app for FloSports. I use it for the marching arts I follow. I wonder if the steeply discounted will only get you the DC united games and not the whole service?

We have Roku, but don't use it much. I suppose we'll have to pay extra to access FloSports. Depending on how much it will cost, and also if we'll get blacked out for home games or not, we may decide to pass on it.

I'm willing to "wait and see" regarding this venture. It is clear that this move is driven by DCU's belief that its target demographic either embraces or will embrace cord cutting (actually a bit of a misnomer because you still need high speed internet access to stream HD video and that still generally requires a hard wired connection.) However, this method of consuming broadcast content will be the future, just like digital over the air replaced analog. My son uses PlayStation Vue for his "cable" service and my daughter uses a Roku and subscribes to the services she wants. In my advanced age, I intend to shit can Xfinity when my contract ends this summer and selectively purchase those services I actually want (and can unsubscribe at any time). Now folks like @fatbastard get screwed because rural areas don't generally have widespread access to reasonably priced high speed internet. There are remedies for that, but the folks who are creating and benefitting economically from creating streaming content couldn't care less about that problem.

Ironically I get my internet without a cord* (which is part of the problem).

    * it gets to my house with no cord, but a cord runs out of the receiver to my PC :)

The ownership may have realized that soccer has topped-out its popularity in this country or at least in its tv ratings. This may be a way to cash-out now especially since they are not getting more eyeballs by any other method.

Once upon a time, United was getting better ratings than the Caps.

    Maybe.

Every time I've had a bar-tender/owner put on an away United game a small crowd starts cheering for them with us and people remark how they should pay more attention to United.

I would never ask a bartender if they could put on an internet game.

I guess if you never want more people to see your product, this might make sense.

Anyway, the Barra is on-board :)

I was in Vegas last year and went out to the local EPL bar to catch games at 7am, something that has been going on there for years. Basically was one of the first to show up and found out the bartender could only put on the NBCSN and CNBC games. After 30-40 people showed up to watch their teams, and a few of them English and belligerent since they had called to confirm they could watch Everton or whoever else was on NBC Sports Gold that week it was down to a waitres who has shown up at like 7:30 or so to set up the Gold games on some of the TVs. Looked like shit, too, however they were getting the stream from a computer to a tv. And this was at a place which is a known soccer bar and shouldn’t have their head up their ass about these things.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Whatever happened to Esse Baharmast? He was a lot better than Geiger, and would do a better job, IMHO.
