So Luchi has described his ideal style as a pressing 4-3-3 that pushes numbers around the ball both offensively and defensively while trying to retain possession. I don't know how his wingers played though so if anyone has watched his youth academy teams would you try and describe how the team and each position played and if any of the returning veterans may be a bad fit for his system?
Not quite sure it’s as easy as saying, “this is how we are going to play.” When you are superior from a talent standpoint (FCD Academy) you can typically dictate style. When you aren’t always superior, sometimes it takes a more pragmatic approach to get three point, or even a point. This is where Luchi probably has the biggest learning curve ahead of him.
You're in luck. They just signed the Czech Cobra who seems to score goals and is physical. Good we needed some size and strength. Hope he breaks the forward jinx.
The last 24 hours my perception is the general FCD fanbase is the victim of Stockholm Syndrome. People are pumped about a 29 year old, coming off an Achilles injury, in addition to a spotty injury record, and a so-so statistical history. Playing in the POLISH 1st TIER?!?! What fanbase gets jazzed over that? One that has been repeatedly sold a bill of goods, and somehow this guy magically appears like a real option. Hassli, Getterson, Jara, Lizarazo, Texeira, Pipico, Perea, Santos, Rodriguez, Galindo, Colmán - that is a list of just the front line guys the Hunts have signed and were, at best, backups and at worst, never saw the field. i could make an argument several of those guys came to Frisco with better resumes than this guy. Come on. We deserve better than this. We live on Earth, which is littered with soccer players and somehow this front office thinks signing no-name, lowrisk/lowpay players is eventually going to pay off. The Cobra may turn out to be great. Who knows, but common sense tells you that if there was a quality #9 running around the Polish 1st tier, there would be at least ONE club, somewhere on the same continent (where there are 15x the number of clubs) where his supposed hard working, goal scoring game would find an interested taker. How does someone who's gonna "make a big difference" end up in Frisco, Texas - playing for literally, a rookie coach? Lastly, the argument given back is: "He just landed in their lap! He's costing nothing! What's to lose?" And my favorite, "This doesn't mean they won't sign another known #9!" omg, that kills me.
Our expectations aren't as high as other teams. We've been conditioned from all the beatings. I don't expect him to be great but a big body guy that fights and scores in the box seems an improvement from last year. How many of Colman's misses could he have scored and maxi was never in those spots to score.
It is obvious that the Academy is the pride and joy of the FCD organization. Never in history has the term been used as much as it was in a First Team Presser by the coach and the owners. This is a big risk being taken, but one that could pay off in the end. This is also one that could end up being "cutting off their nose to spite their face" due to the fact that the entire Academy is going to have to be revamped. The fact that Luchi is still around is not enough to ensure the Academy continues to move in the direction he had it moving. He was an invaluable resource to the Academy and was the sole figure that made sure everyone was on the same page. Is there someone out there that has the same leadership capabilities, probably. Is that person going to want to stamp their own presence on the Academy, probably. Interesting times for sure.
What Peet wrote. As long as the Hunts keep giving us this okey-doke over and over and over again -- from never hiring a coach who hadn't already been on the payroll to continuously signing players who were kind of "meh" in the Moldovan 2nd division or whatever -- I'm not in any sort of mood for any sort of sunshine-pumping. If King Cobra were some 18-year-old kid who was doing what he was doing in the Polish league, OK, fine. He might be on the way up, like a certain Colombian winger for whom this team paid a fair amount of money. You can sell me on that. But this guy is 29. He is what he is, and that almost certainly is not going to be the next Bradley Wright-Phillips. It is seriously getting to the point that FCD's international forward signings need to come with a laugh track. Maybe this Luis Muzzi's going away present for the team. Instead of leaving an upper-decker in the office toilet on his way out the door, he signs this guy.
I thought Stockholm Syndrome was when you were kidnapped and in close proximity to your captors and become sympathetic to them to the point of believing in their cause. This is FCD / Burn / Hunt Syndrome where we are willing participants who are sympathetic to the cause we make up in our minds.
Oh how about everyone and their mother saying how young/inexperienced this team is that the Hunts went out and found a savvy, experienced older striker, who yes won't cost much, but is capable of putting the ball in the net for a may be in over their heads MLS side.
