IMO the guy is in his last legs with the chronic back pain. I don't see him doing well in a physical league like MLS.

FC Cincinnati sits atop the Allocation List and we are all aware they tried to get FJ over the summer or at least inquired. Today FCC traded to get Greg Garza that closes the door on any possibility of FJ to FCC. TFC made moves to go 2nd in the allocation list. There have been some rumblings of Altidore drawing some interest from Liga MX and Europe. Connecting the dots here.........it wouldn’t surprise me to see EJ land in TFC if all those dots are connected. It may or may not happen and who knows what the likelihood is but my eyebrow is raised. Something to keep an eye on.

Yeah, back problems + long flights + turf fields does not seem like a winning combination.

Both are left backs / wingbacks and FCC also acquired Roland Lamah, a left winger solidifying their left side for next season.

Fabian Johnson wouldn't be a defensive signing for an MLS team; he would play as an attacking winger or a wide midfielder. He can play on the right, too, and has in half of his appearances this season.

Not trying to argue too much, I just don't think that anything that Cincinnati did today rules out a move there for Fabian.

There are rumors that Vancouver will be sending Waston to FCC. Whitecaps were also rumored to be getting Garza a couple of days ago. Maybe there is some trade action coming up such as Waston for Garza plus some cash/TAM? That would potentially free up things for FJ.

Oh, I agree. EJ would not be a defensive signing. But neither is Greg Garza and that was basically my point. He may be a LB but defense isn’t his forfeit, either. That was why I think the door shut on FJ.

I also see Fabian Johnson as more of an attacking player in MLS, but the real question is salary. I wouldn't expect an MLS club to give him a Bradley/Dempsey/Altidore salary of $6 million a year, but his contract is valid to June 2020, and I could see him getting anything from $1-$3 million a year. The injuries are definitely hurting his value.

I see Johnson and Omar Gonzalez as the two most likely US national team players on the allocation list to return to MLS.

Well, nevermind. Waston just went from Vancouver to FCC for a good amount of GAM and TAM. Garza not involved.

He has played a central AM now and again as well. Never impressed me that much, but different scenery can yield different views.

I do think FabJo would kill it in MLS. When he has played this season, he has looked really good. Of course, one bad step and his back explodes. Caveat emptor.

"Alan Koch is an absolute expert in football and knows the German market very well. Therefore, we are pleased the statement of Alan on Fabian very much, "said Johnson consultant Tobias Becker on transfermarket request and confirmed that there are prospects for the Gladbacher, without wanting to affirm explicit clubs. The contract of Johnson at the "foals" runs until the summer of 2020. Should it not come to an extension, would be the latest last summer's chance for Borussia, at least, to generate a transfer.

He hasn’t played much the past year and injuries have to be a concern for any club that signs him - especially for teams playing on turf.

He is a talented and smart player but how much can you afford to pay with the injury risk?

He sounds like a guy who probably needs to wind it down. He's not an investment that a club like FCC can risk.

Off topic but @bshredder did you understand the move FCC made with Kei Kamara?

rumors/speculation of FJ's demise are greatly overstated in this thread. he's just stuck behind some very good players at the moment. hazard, plea, stindl, etc are not pushovers.

if FJ moves to MLS - and wants to be back on the USMNT - his best bet is @ left back - making an FCC move a bit dubious considering garza is there, imo.

If he just wants to play as an attacker - there's a lower chance he gets back on the USMNT - but maybe under GGG he could be able to play more like he does in the Bundesliga....and would be a fit at an attacking spot for usmnt.

Interesting that he'd line up at RB - perhaps 3G has been in his ear about outside back being where he'd have a chance to get back in the USMNT? also, fcc has a left back in garza - maybe that's why he's on the right....auditioning for a move
