MLS v CSL

Discussion in 'MLS: General' started by (They call him) RMc, Dec 20, 2016.

  1. Well, the Liga MX teams would be a formidable force in the AFC CL, though. And the one CWC that Sarpissa has played, they beat Al-Ittihad for the third place. But granted, that was a long time ago and CR's league has arguably weakened since then.

And Cruz Azul (or was it Pachuca) lost to Auckland United (OFC).

I love the FIFA CWC, but the sample size is way too small to make significant arguments based on the results.

But to your point, ignoring travel fatigue, Liga MX would be fighting for championships with K-league, J-league and CSL for sure.

I doubt that LMX would have the current record of like 13-15 straight continental championships in the Asian Champions league, but it would have a good record IMO.

Liga MX would be formidable opponents but nothing close to guaranteed victors like in CONCACAF. The Club World Cup may not be a very long tournament but we have had enough editions to safely conclude that the Asian elite is on par with the Mexican elite.

In other news, Fabio Capello has signed for Jiangsu Suning:

According to CFA, Any CSL or CL1 club seen to be in debt that spends more then ¥45 million (€5.9m) on a foreign player, or ¥20m (€2.6m) on a domestic signing, will have to pay the same amount to a football development foundation under the control of the CFA.

Restrictions have also been suggested for players who join Chinese clubs on loan.if the loan fee is less than the transfer fee paid initially by the parent club, clubs will be required to pay the appropriate registration fee based on the earlier transfer fee.

The additional registration fee will be returned to be spent on the club's youth academy.

Is smart to try to control their spending, otherwise you may have Clubs go under their debt obligations.

Another big win for China. They have one round left, and still have a chance to advance to the playoff. They need to win and get some help from Syria and Uzbekistan.

Ultimately the slip up that cost them is the home loss to Syria. Otherwise they've played very solid. Home wins against South Korea and Uzbekistan. Home draws against Iran and Qatar. And they've been in every game on the road, only losing by one goal in Iran and South Korea.

As for Champions League, all 3 Chinese participants made it into knockout stage. Unfortunately they ended up drawing each other in the knockout rounds. So Shanghai eliminated Jiangsu and is about to eliminate Guangzhou. That means that only one semifinalist will be from China.

Looks like that spending surge did have a positive effect. They toned it down for this last transfer window, the whole league combined only spending about $50 million in transfers from abroad. Which ultimately is still a decent chunk of money, and probably more appropriate for this phase of their evolution.

This is an interesting topic and one that I spent a few days pondering when it was announced that China would get an invitation to Copa America 2019... China, Why China? I thought then I looked up the list of foreign player in the CSL... They realy like Brazilian players over there,

I was impressed by the quality of their foreign players also. I seems that they are able to attract ($$$$$$) good players that are relative young still Oscar is 25, Hulk and Ramires are 30.

Their ability to sign international talent have a big impact on the league exposure and marketing.

China is going to the 2019 copa America?

That is crazy, but very smart by Conmebol, China is a big market they want to gain exposure to that market, China will probably struggle but it will be great for their development.

Who is the other invited team? Mexico?

Wikipedia says it will have 16 teams with the six non-CONMEBOL teams to be determined. I'm not saying Wikipedia is right.

    Yeah, they took an ass-whopping.

I wonder if they will try to go the Qatar route and try to nationalize a bunch of Brazilian and Argentinian players to get better at national level.

It is reported that CSL will hold club conference in December 20th, and most likely CSL foreigner slots will be changed back to 4+1, and the calary cap and budget cap will be published, according to media it will be:

    1. salary cap for single domestic player: 15 million RMB ≈ 2.2m USD
    2. no salary cap for foreigner players
    3. club budget cap: 400 million RMB ≈ 58.1 million USD

That is a high cap, I assume only a handful of teams are able to pay that much (maybe 5 or 6).

Interesting that after all this talk about which Canadian teams will play in which league and how strong or not the Canadian league will be when it starts, Ottawa is refusing to play in it because its not good enough and they want o play in the strongest possible league, the USL. Their stance is backed by the 3 Canadian MLS teams. Meanwhile CONCACAF is refusing to sanction Ottawa as a team unless they agree to play in the Canadian league and not the USL in 209.
