If both of those things happen(I don't have an Athletic subscription so I am basing this off of the title) I don't see how this team gets any better for 2019.
Not only is Pauno returning, NRod is also returning. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018/11/21/report-paunovic-chicago-fire-verge-multi-year-deal So I guess NOTHING has changed, same-o-BULLSHIT........
“The Athletic reports the sides are closing in on a multi-year contract for Paunovic, whose current deal expires at the end of the year. ...Paunovic is 31-46-26 since joining Chicago... ...The story also claims general manager Nelson Rodriguez is set to return.”
Looks like Joe doesn't care if we win, loss or draw just like Andi. If he did no way in hell both of these morons should have jobs......
Resigning Paunovic is just a slap in the face to anyone left who actually cares about this team. Nelson Rodriguez admitted that he personally is to blame for this past season's results. Any human being with even an ounce of respectability would have resigned as a result. That N-Rod and Pauno are being rewarded for this cluster f*ck defies all logic. The current Chicago Fire team is a big reason while I currently support promotion and relegation for US soccer. There has to be some kind of system that removes the institutional rot that the Chicago Fire has become.
Well, there's your problem. I can not get behind Promotion and Relegation in MLS, but I definitely see your point.
Apparently NRod resigned Pauno ti a new three contract. https://www.sportskacentrala.com/2018/12/18/paunovic-nastavlja-misiju-u-mls-ligi/ Translation: Veljko Paunović will continue the job at Chicago Fire. According to the Sport Journal, the Serbian expert agreed to extend the cooperation with MLS league from Ilinois. Paunovic will sign a three-year contract with Chicago, and the deal will be announced in the coming days. Paunovic, who led Serbia U-19 to the title of the world champion in New Zealand, has so far led Chicago to 100 official matches, with 31 victories, 25 unresolved results and 44 losses.
This is f*cking terrible news, but awesome translation. What is the Serbian for "expert"? It must not be expert. I have witnessed no "cooperation" from Paunovic at all. When, oh, when will those 25 "unresolved" results be resolved? The players must be getting tired by this point.
NEWS | The Club has signed Head Coach @VPaunovic to a multi-year contract extension. 📝More: https://t.co/NnIdcZ0W97 #cf97 pic.twitter.com/wLnSCumJBg— Chicago Fire FC (@ChicagoFire) January 3, 2019
this is formal confirmation that we are in year one of a 3 year rebuilding plan. for the 12th straight year. We've wasted Basti worse than we wasted Blanco.
I'm not quite ready to write off Joe Mansueto. While extending Pauno and Nelson's contract is an obvious mistake, I wonder if Pauno is being kept because there isn't anyone else who is better that is willing to take the job. If you were a knowledgeable coach, how likely would you be to take the job? There are likely very few candidates for the position and Joe is new to MLS, I doubt he has any connections or relationships in the industry. Which leads me to Nelson's extension, who does Joe know? Wouldn't it make sense for him to leverage Nelson's connections throughout the league to meet more people and get the feel of the league? I think he is going with these options because right now he doesn't know any better and is giving them another shot due to lack of options. I'm going to judge Joe on his reputation before joining the Fire rather than his first moves as minority owner. He has a reputation of personal sacrifice for the benefit of his company. He has an obsession with excellence and has alot of civic pride. I he will be learning alot this year and we will see his impact come in 2020 or 2021. If we start next season without a full roster and Nelson appears to be calling all the shots without any sense of urgency like he has in previous years; I will be concerned. If we haven't seen a significant change in the culture at the Fire by 2021, I will add his name to Hauptman, Nelson, Pauno Out.
Hi. No horse in the race here. But I am very amused by the 'Taco Bell' and 'MyFitnessPal' juxtaposition on your screen there.
Well he could have fired NRod and brought in a competent replacement, even if it was temporary (aka Wilt), he could have helped Joe out.
Oh, man, could you all imagine what would happen to Hauptman if Joe Mansueto fired Rodriguez and brought in Peter Wilt? Wilt built in 7 years (1 MLS Cup, 3 MLS Cup Finals, 3 US Open Cups, 1 Supporter's Shield, unbelievable support from the fans, even to this day) what Hauptman has attempted to destroy (none of the above have occurred). His little douchebag head would just explode. (Almost) all of us would spontaneously orgasm.
Please, I beg of you, don't go to the "Food" or "What are you drinking" Threads here on BigSoccer to see what our good friend @sportscrazed2 eats and drinks and otherwise imbibes. Please don't go. Save yourself.
