I certainly get the impression that he truly enjoys being here. He is getting around $5mill a year IIRC. He flies coach with the rest of the boys and rooms with either Birnbaum or Ousted on the road. From the articles and interviews and just his demeanor on the field, I think he is enjoying playing soccer for the first time in a long while. As for the big bucks, he could have gone to China this summer, but chose to go to MLS.
At DCU, he's a great, big, nasty fish feasting in a little pond. It might gall us to admit it, but that's what MLS is. There are other little ponds out there, I'm afraid. Now, I'm much more worried about losing Acosta. We're dicked if we let Mattocks get away and then some mid-table La Liga side approaches Acosta with a big bag of coins.
This shouldn't gall anyone. I'm also worried about Acosta. I can't remember how long his contract is for either.
I think a good bit of his decision to choose the US was for his family. Raising his young children in an English speaking country was apparently a priority. He may also appreciate being able to go places without being mobbed. I understand that many Euro greats enjoyed coming to the US in the off season for this benefit alone (JK for one).
I’m on the Acosta citizenship bandwagon. What do we gotta do to get him? He came over here so young hat if he started immediately, he could have some quality years for the US if he wanted.
I just posted about this in another thread in the US National team board. 5 years from when he got his green card (this past January). So, he'd be about 28, but the time he'd be eligible. Could still have some good years left, but he'd have to live in the US for that whole time I think. That may not happen if he keeps playing so well.
If we win on Sunday, and if Philly beats NYCFC, we all end up with 53 points. How does this break out? I think Philly takes 3rd place with more wins, and we could edge out NYCFC on GD. (If we win thats, more for us; and if NYCFC loses, thats less for them)
I think you are right. There is no way DCU can get 3rd place, despite what some folks have suggested in other fora.
Makes you wish we could have held on for another minute away vs TFC ( or not moved the game in the first place and play vs their backups)
A 53 point DCU will hold a tiebreaker over 53 point NYCFC due to either goal differential or goals scored. A 53 point DCU will not hold a tiebreaker over 53 point Philadelphia due to Philly having more wins in that scenario. So, if DC wins, and Philly beats NYCFC on Sunday, Philly gets 3, DC gets 4, and NYC gets 5. If DC wins, and NYCFC beats Philly on Sunday, NYC gets 3, DC gets 4, and Philly gets 5.
Doesn't get more let's invade Poland looking than that one looking forward to your "how to find stuff on the web" lessons
Yeah. I went searching around for it because I knew i'd seen it with Knave's avatar for ages (he's now got another crest for it though.) Like the original RapidMan (god rest his salmon backed soul) I couldn't find it.
LOL. I'm probably the least internet savvy person in this forum, but it took me ten times longer to figure out how to post the picture than it did to find it. This is the first picture I've posted, btw. I don't use google; I use bing.. It was easy to find; took maybe 30 seconds. I think many posters are just too young to remember much of DCU's pre history. asitis
Oh i was there and I remember it. I just can't get either Google or Bing to serve it up for me no matter what search terms I use. Algorithms are weird.
OK. I feel like I'm being pranked. You wouldn't make fun of a old man; would ya? All I did was search "DC United Logo" on Bing. The first thing that came up was "Images of DC United Logo". I clicked on that, scrolled down and there it was about 30 rows of images down. asitis
