Can't help it the people that claim years of coaching exp and then also claim to be experienced scouts who see one fifteen second clip or see a kid scored a goal and claim a kid is legit because of that single goal/clip are just over the top ridiculous. They wonder why there are so many busts. Its because they are desperate to claim they were the first to see the kid or announce their arrival. Its like u and thst one kid you used to remind people nonstop u discovered him....pretty quiet now just hc excuses really.

There's definitely a proclivity to get too excited by highlight clips of young American prospects on these boards.

In the case of Carleton, though, we've seen more than enough from USYNTs, MLS, and USL to determine that he should be getting more playing time with the Atlanta first team. We have a looooooooooooooot of tape on Andrew Carleton. We didn't go into the season thinking he was going to start regularly for a loaded Atlanta offense. No surprise there. But he should have been a routine substitute with sporadic starts. I think we went into the season believing he'd get >1000 minutes.

Tim Weah at frickin PSG (with their insane offensive firepower) will get more minutes this season than Carleton did with Atlanta United. That doesn't make sense. Most USYNT watchers thought that Carleton was a better prospect than Weah.....................

People think Tata is a good coach...clearly doesn't love him went out and got a similar player who has struggled but clearly is ahead of him on the depth chart. Fan opinions are great but they don't make lineups. There is a lot of bad carleton tape too outside if the highlights and that no doubt hurts him with atlanta.

Just for the record, I have been tracking Bello since he was with the U16 team, others even earlier. You are like Trump, you spew some false accusation enough times and then you think is true. Trump, is that you?

Wht do u as always reveal who you have been tracking after they go mainstream. He is 16...u16 was like 8 months ago lol that's not long for a kid that everyone has known about for at least that long. Lets have someone you are 'tracking' who hasn't been top 5 on top drawer for a few years or isn't with the usynt setup then I'll be impressed. That's what u did with parks he went overseas and you told everyone you were already tracking him lol.

That does not speak well to the competence and credibility of most "USYNT watchers"!

Have you ever watched Carleton play? You seem to form a lot of negative opinions on him without giving indication that you have any basis to do so.

Maybe there's some other explanation for the hate you pour towards him?

Carleton has a whole thread about his situation and abilities. He is certainly not breaking out this year. I'd say he has shot par and done the minimum an 18 yr old needs to do to stay relevant as a future USMNT player.

It is going to be hard for anyone to overtake Tyler Adams as the 2018 Breakout Player.

Tyler Adams already broke out...…………….last year when he played over 2000 minutes. At least that's my opinion.

I'd say the breakouts in MLS were Auston Trusty and Reggie Cannon. Both came from negligible minutes last year to key pieces of their teams in 2018. Cannon has already earned a callup to the USMNT, and Trusty shouldn't be that far behind.

In fact, in terms of minutes played in the entire league regardless of age...……..these our the Olympics eligible youngsters in the top 25.

    #1 Auston Trusty
    #4 Justen Glad
    #13 Reggie Cannon
    #23 Brooks Lennon

We can look at both as examples for what will hopefully happen with a player like Andrew Carleton. I mean Cannon went from zero to USMNT in less than a calendar year. That's what Carleton should be looking to emulate.

He became a professional, but break out? Is that all it takes to play 2000 minutes and get one cap only because the team failed to qualify for the world cup?

At this time last year, he had zero caps. I doubt his name ever entered Arena's head (it probably should have as a replacement for Zusi). He was an ok MLS player mostly playing on the wing.

Since then, he has become one of the 3 best players on the USMNT arguably. He made the MLS All-Star team. He has moved to CM and dominated MLS. He is basically signed for a move to the 2nd place team in the Bundesliga. The manager of Leipzig actually bemoaned to the press in Germany that it was a blow they couldn't get him in the Summer.

Trusty, Glad, Lennon have not been capped all year. They did not make the MLS All-Star team. Trusty had a nightmare in the biggest game of the year for his team. Glad and Lennon were sent home from January camp. Cannon has emerged to get basically where Adams was at this time last year. He has not claimed a starting spot on the USMNT and nobody expects him to.

If Robinson had made an EPL squad, he would be a serious contender. But he is just a smidge above where he was at the start of the year. Weah had an argument but looks to be playing with the reserves the rest of the year. The same for Sargent.

Frankly it is a fair question, Folks called McKennie the break out last year yet he played around 750 minutes in 2017 and was a bit player claiming a bigger role in the second half of the season 2018. Based on those criteria, I think the 2000 minutes Adams played with two goals and four assists could be considered a breakout as well in 2017.

You know, you can go to the Youth National Teams group and you will find mine and others making comments about Bello and others way before they broke through.

Can we keep politics out of this??? Half the country voted for Trump - so no matter the delusion people may have, not just you but speaking out (all the damn time) is only divisive. What purpose does this serve? It’s not just you, but I’ve seen a recent trend lately where posters look for every opportunity they can to impose their own political belief systems onto others. It’s just getting really old, and to be honest I don’t give a damn what anyone’s political beliefs are on bigsoccer. Moreover, to be perfectly honest, the more I hear people incessantly complain about Trump, the more I hope he stays in office. Not necessarily because I love the man, but I would love nothing more than to rub it in the faces of people who think it’s their job to share their political beliefs at any possible moment. “Oh the sky is blue, well I bet you Trump is going to tell you it’s red.” It’s simply annoying, tired, and counterintuitive. Seriously, it’s like 24/7 with this nonsense. You want to be a Democrat, be a Democrat. You want to be a Republican, be a Republican. No one cares. Nothing you, me, or anyone on here is going to change. Election is coming up in November - vote then if you want your voice heard. Otherwise, I want to hear about soccer not politics. Hell, if anything, it’d be nice to have a safe haven from political discussion on here as it seems like the whole damn country thinks it’s their responsibility to tell other people how to believe.

Again, I don’t mean this to be personalized all at you... it was just the straw that broke the camels back, but damn, I’m just getting tired of hearing about it all the damn time. I’ve seen it every day I’ve looked on bigsoccer lately whereas it seems like people use to practice more constraint. And if anyone thinks it’s actually persuading people to change their own belief systems, they’re mistaken. The only thing people become convinced more of, is their disdain for the other. It’s not just a Democrat issue, If it was the flip side, I’d feel the same way. People need to learn to shut the hell up and quit lecturing. This isn’t the place for that discussion. Anyways, I hope we can all somehow try to remember that, Right, Left, or whatever, we’re all here because we share in common our love for soccer.

The most important thing in life is the connections you got.

I suspect Carleton doesn't have the right connections.

I just hope Carleton bolts in the offseason... hopefully maybe land in the Eredivisie and make a name for himself.

Strange thing is that Barco has proven to be highly overrated, Romario is trash, and Vasquez still has work to do. It’s astonishing he can’t find the field.

As a player you hire the agent with the right connections.

Carleton fell flat on his face there. All these other young cats have agents who are getting them deals in Germany. Not hard to do as many agents specialize in getting youth opportunities overseas. Yet Carleton is stuck picking splinters out of his ass in ATL from all his time on the bench.
