Well, with so many tealights, it's no longer a dark universe: Schalke stands #14 now, finally above the red line, with Bayer still having a game in hand (away at Freiburg).
John Doyle, Eric Eichmann, Brian Bliss, Chris Sullivan, Chris Henderson, Mike Lapper, Joe Max Moore, Reyna, are others I can think of that were in Germany int eh first half of the 90s or late 80s.
The first one I remember was Eric Wynalda. I have very fond memories of him as he began to play in the Bundesliga, when I started following it.
Was only there a season or two and I didn't get a ton of opportunities before he got called home, like a lot of players did in 96. Came back to Captain the Columbus Crew obviously... (totally OT sidenote, that was back in the dark days before BS and other message boards. I was in an email group with the guy who broke in McBride's boots. From his descriptions, McHead was the nicest human ever born fwiw.)
As I speak fluent German I can confirm that he said, "It's always great to score. Now hopefully some of those morons from Bigsoccer will stop taking the piss out of my name... knock on wood!"
Makes Kicker's team of the week with a rating of 2. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...liga/2018-19/7/elf-des-tages-am-spieltag.html His manager mentioned that Wood has been good in training and wasn't surprised that he got on the scoresheet. https://www.ndr.de/sport/fussball/B...ood-Endlich-wieder-obenauf,hannover13614.html
http://www.espn.com/soccer/united-s...woods-qualities-never-in-doubt-hannover-coach Hannover's coach with some strong praise for Wood: "It wasn't the easiest situation for Bobby at Hamburg, as for all who were there," Breitenreiter said. "In spite of that, we were convinced of his qualities."
I met McBride briefly at the Colombus airport after the Mexico loss and can confirm he was super nice in our very brief chat, even though he was with his (hot) wife, on the way to his gate, and I resembled a homeless wino at the time.
terrible. but luckily they are in good (bad) company. I haven't watched much Fortuna but what I saw v. Shalke was not very compelling. Stud Garden without Green will go down, just out of spite.
It happened a little bit later, but for me Mathis' time in the Bundesliga will always be the ultimate, both for the ridiculous goals and the crotch-grabbing clebrations aimed at his coach.
It seems so long ago, but that was what 15/20 years? What might have been if he only knew to control himself
Better than last season (could anything be worse?), but not really good enough. They're third in BL2, only two points behind Koln in first place but with a vastly inferior GD. They're scoring OK, but not more than that, while conceding a goal a game. Two points off first place, but three points ahead of 8th place. Looks like being squeaky bum time all season long.
