It was a dull scoreless home draw against SKC that served as the final nail in Dom Kinnear's coffin in 2017, so future Quakes' coaches should be on notice that all will be forgiven except poor play against Dorothy's team.
Falvo, I support the firing of the coach. (I also support your thesis that the owner is ultimately responsible for the team). I'm just pointing out that if one is drawing conclusions about the GM based upon a mistaken assumption (that is, that the GM would put his own ego above the good of the club and would not fire the coach because it would make the GM look bad) then one might need to reevaluate his assumptions about the GM.
The GM is worthless and should have never been hired. At this point , he makes Doyle look smart but I still say Fisher is responsible for his team. How can you have an owner who doesn’t talk? I don’t care howl much money hel had but he is a total idiot!
100% in agreement. Our offense designed in the past to get Wondo the ball as opposed to developing a multi-player attack impacted the team's performance. Wondo got his goals, but we didn't win and barely made the playoffs (if at all). Too often in the past, all you would see our players looking for was Wondo. This year has been a good transition which I hope continues to move forward. Records mean nothing to me unless you are winning championships and/or competing with championships. Please note that this not a reflection on Wondo. We all know that Wondo bleeds Quakes colors and always gives 100%. I wish that he could have been part of a championship team, but it's not looking like that will happen unless we trade him.
Are we? If there was, there'd probably be more investment - both financially and just interest - from the owners. Or they'd have sold us by now. Just a thought...
Quoting Wondo: On the message to the Earthquakes fans: “We’re just so thankful to have them. They are some of the most dedicated and knowledgeable fans. They don’t deserve this. I just feel so bad for them because they deserve a lot better and they’re not getting it. It hurts us, but I feel for them as well because they do deserve better and should get better.” Yes, we should.
Agreed Jesse did his job....finally ....after dragging his feet for how many months when it was obvious he made a bad hire!! And what about hanging Leitch out to dry? And what about resigning Godoy for more money? And what about bringing in the 2 Swedish meatballs? And what about the Fatai affair? And what about doubling down on Vako and investing in bringing his best friend to the team? And what about not getting a left back during the summer window? And what about trading Quincy for a lesser player? That’s a lot of strikes isn’t it.... Fisher is the real problem no doubt about it and it all rolls down hill from there. Kaval wasn’t a soccer guy and shouldn’t of been allowed to hire a GM, Jesse isn’t getting it done and unless Fox somehow gets us a New Jersey (lol) and stadium sponsor this off season he’s also a bad hire. Only a new ownership group can turn this ship, otherwise it’s more lipstick on a pig.
After a 3-0 loss to SKC at home, Seattle fired Sigi Schmid in July 2016. After a 3-1 loss to SKC on 9/16/17, New England fired Jay Heaps. So three years in a row now, SKC have been the catalyst to push a beleaguered coach out the door.
I am not saying there were no strikes ... the team is Wooden Spoon! You have 9 strikes listed. I don't agree that the Quincy deal was a strike because I think Quincy asked for the trade. I do know his wife was delighted to be going to Montreal.. I don't think JF hung Leitch out to dry. Fatai's agent had asked for a trade prior to that game. I think Kashia's addition to the team was a good one. Jesse did get rid of Stahre, though not as quickly as you would have liked. (BTW, I was surprised and not thrilled when Stahre was signed in the first place). So I dispute 5 strikes, which leaves 4 more mentioned. I was not a Godoy fan (so his performance is a strike), but I do know that many players and staff thought highly of his skills. Magnus looked like a good signing to me, and I think he was not used in a way which matched his strengths. (This gets into the question of who sits, Wondo, Vako, Hyka, Magnus?) Qwiberg didn't make an impact, and I definitely see the summer window failure to get a left back in the summer window as a strike.
Quincy and Fatai weren't the long term answers. At best, they are backups, and at worst, they are starting because your team sucks. I would add the Hyka is another potential strike. Too inconsistent and he disappears in the second half in too many games. Leftback and not having a backup to Tarbell who could push and start some games. Swing and a miss!
It's been over a week, so I am sorry for the delay in reporting in, but I was lucky enough to visit your city for that weekend and watch this game. Don G showed my buddy and I an awesome time, and was a very gracious host. I met quite a few supporters around town and down at Original Gravity. We were nothing but impressed with how friendly everyone was. Thank you for the wonderful experience. I hope KC treats you all as well if you ever come to town to watch a game. You will also find that things are a tad bit less expensive here. Anyway, cheers!
For a Kansas Citian to find us friendly is a huge compliment, as Kansas City is the friendliest city in the United States. I attended the game in KC that we won 5-0, and so it was a great experience, and the SKC fans and even the staff went out of their way to welcome my family. And a tad less expensive for sure!
The only problem I have with Jesse as GM is that I think he is in over his head and is doing things the European way. This method doesn't work in MLS. Europeans presidents deal with constant pressure from fans and owners but also from players if they don't perform. I'm sure Fioranelli has some pressure here too but its nothing like he is use to. It still all comes back to Fisher. After 11 years, you have to start taking responsibility for your club. Its easy for all of us to keep blaming John Doyle, Dave Kaval , Frank Yallop , Mark Watson , Dom Kinnear , Fioranelli and Stahre but when does the blaming game all end?
