Sorry to hijack, but if you are interested in some side stories of the Great War “African Kaiser” is really good as well. Some really cool stories about the less talked about front in German East Africa. Lots of strong characters front that part of the conflict.
I'm not familiar with that title, but if that's about von Lettow-Vorbeck, Jan Christian Smuts, and their lots, you're dead right. Byron Farwell's The Great War in Africa can also be recommended. It's fascinating stuff. You probably don't want to get me started on WWI book recommendations, though. **tips hat to the Barbara Tuchman rec earlier** I'm gonna look up African Kaiser as soon as I get in to work. Thanks for the tip.
Wait? Who knew there were so many WWI nerds here? Though my recent reading has been on the doctrine of Schwerpunkt, Panzer warfare etc
Yep. Mainly about von Lettow, but covers a lot more. Some really interesting British personalities in there as well.
You share a forum with a bunch a nerds who are willing to discuss the merits of the difference between -0.1 chance creation and +0.05 chance completion. You shouldn't be surprised in the slightest we like to discect the machine that Bismarck built.
Rafa is seemingly pretty reliable, so we can only hope this is truth. But still why didn't the club come out with this kind of explanation right away? Emery's statement was vague enough that it didn't really quash the rumors.
A little later, but I just read the new book “1947.” It’s a fascinating look at just how much went down in that year and how much it shaped the last 70 years of history. Not an in-depth read, but it skips across a lot of content.
Yeah, I just read a front page article in today's NYTimes about Chemnitz... scary, haunting stuff. Especially if it's seen as an example of a global trend in overt racism, populism, nationalism, etc. Or worse yet as a tipping point. In the past Chemnitz neo-nazi marches consisted of a few hundred, and always outnumbered by counter-protesters, but this time the tables were turned... with 8,000 right-wing marchers.
Truth to be told: if a current member of the German national team or even a current player in the Bundesliga had shown support for the AFD, the backlash of the German media and fans would have been enormous. When a far-right politician said that people don`t want to live next to someone like Jerome Boateng two years ago, 90% of the population condemned him. But in Özil`s case it is different, because the left itself is split on the issue, because of the Erdogan issue.
Bayern president is right Ozil has been shit for years. No other club would pay his wages except arsenal who he extorted.
Stats disagree with you there chief. Now if you had said he goes missing in big club matches I could buy that, but his returns are still elite.
His returns elite? I watched him all of last season for Arsenal and in the world cup. Nothing elite about a luxury player. Sorry if I don't give a shit about how many chances he creates against the relegation teams. He's been shit in every big game for as long as I can remember
