I ranked Serie A below the French league last year, but Ronaldo will make Serie A interesting again. He can potentially set a chain reaction in Italy, where all the major clubs will invest again and lead to the rebirth of the league.
Yup. Sounded like BS to me as well. Just doesn't make sense for the number to be that high. Cristiano Ronaldo: "Joining Juventus was a simple decision".
I think he wanted to leave; he's selfish and has no loyalty beyond his own interests. I never saw him as the type to retire here and be an ambassador to the club; whether he went to Juventus, PSG or the MLS - it was inevitable. His brand and image always comes first before any team.
It actually would be cool if he came back for like one euro wages and retired at the club, but his pride would never allow it.
Napoli president came out and said Ronaldo was offered to them first as he wanted a reunion with Ancelotti but they couldn't afford his wages. Also, we were hardly the best team in the league when he joined.
I see it the way a Liverpool fan saw the CL final. Last minute of the 2019 CL final between Madrid and Juve. Ronaldo through on goal, defender and keeper closing down on him. He absolutely hammers it, the ball flies into the top corner, Navas had no chance. Ronnie runs to the corner flag, does his jump and twirl, then takes his top off. Referee gives him a yellow card but he’s totally ok with the yellow. He blows kisses to the Juve fans, delighted that he’s scored yet again at the highest level of club football. A few seconds later the referee blows the whistle for the end of the game. Madrid have won 5-1.
With some truth serum, he'd have said: "Joining Juventus was a financial decision". Since he's all about keepin' it 100. People are more likely to buy a Juve jersey than a Chinese, MLS or Qatari team's jersey. Let's be honest.
Nah, he quickly shut down the idea of going back to Sporting after Juve. Either he ends his career in the States or tries to have some kind of retirement here. After all, his years in Madrid have been the best of his life on both professional and personal level.
I should’ve been more clear. I didn’t mean actually play a league campaign with Sporting, just a one day retirement contract thing. Finish where he started.
Yeah I know, but my point's the same. Besides, it's not like it makes that much sense in him retiring with Sporting. As much as he loves that club for being his home when he left the island, he only actually played a season there. Both his next two teams had a much bigger impact in his life.
Clubs get 10% max from shirt sales and while Ronaldo shirt sales go up, shirt sales of other players go down. Even if that didn't happen, that's about €5m for Juventus. Ronaldo's contract is worth ~€340m. Shirt sales do not finance transfers. https://t.co/7Mx7BLjb45— Cover_Shadow (@Cover_Shadow) July 17, 2018
I honestly thought of this already- that Cristiano moved to play with Higuain/Dybala to prove he could win titles with the players Messi can't. And also to prove that he can win titles with Higuain instead of Benzema. Should be interesting to see how Benzema and Bale perfrom without Cris, and vice versa. I also think Ronaldo wanted to leave is to protect his legacy, he walked away with three consecutive CL and his goal per game average in tact. It was never going to get better than that so I understand the reason he wanted to leave (also Flo, taxes, etc.) and I think the above helps to explain why Juve.
Lol i doubt Ronaldo moved to prove that he could play with players Messi can't. That would be some serious obsession. Higuain is more than likely gonna be sold anyway. And Ronaldo's legacy was hardly in danger. Unless, he fell off a cliff next season, he was just coming off 44 goals in 44 games with 450 goals in 438 games or something like that. He could literally score 1 in 12 next year and still have a goal a game for madrid. INCREDIBLE. Even if he retired at the club with less than a goal per game it wouldn't be a bad thing as he would still be the club's all-time topscorer maybe even reaching 550-600 goals which would probably never ever be surpassed for 1000s of years.
