    Exactly.

There is a chant that many teams sing throughout the English leagues by fans.....regardless of their position. It will go something like..."Bristol City..Bristol City FC...we're by far the greatest team...the world has ever seen" They know they aren't the greatest team the world has ever seen, everybody else knows it....and guess what, nobody calls them out for being arrogant...because they're just fans trying to have a good time and sing some songs.

Because your freaking press and media were so dam arrogant they were already talking about the matchup of England vs France in the finals. I love it that Modric Lovren and co. are throwing it back in there arrogant faces. You English will never learn to respect smaller nations.

Is there an actual link to one of them doing that ? Not saying it doesn't exist, I'd just love to see it myself. There is nothing wrong or disrespectful with saying "If we get past Croatia, how a final with France would be".

There is no point pursuing this. Some people just have certain world views ingrained, and they find the propaganda that suits their agenda best.

Like I said before, this is the old coach trick of finding something deemed disrespectful from the opposition to pump his own players up.

We had some posters here saying England would crush Croatia, but this is the Internet ... can't take every one seriously. Some people just trying to get a rise out of others.

Of that I have no doubt....all coaches do it to get a reaction out of their players. If it helped them, well done (though I don't know why you'd need more motivation than representing your country in a WC semi final)..and there is no issue with that. 4-5 players continuing to go on about it in the media after they've won..just comes across like having a chip on the shoulder though.

What do you think Modric and his teammates were making this up lol. Same thing happened in 2007. Bilic once again just like in 2007 called out the English media for there arrogance just like in 2007 euro qualifier.

Let's see former English players say there going to win by 2-3 goals, Croatia are spent they will have nothing for England. Croatia looked bad or were not impressive at all against Denmark or Russia therefore England should win just some of the nonsense that spewed by the English media.

I saw only a one liner text of it. So no context. But I can see some of these guys becoming more of fans than actual serious analysts and jump on the hype.

I did find one English analyst on ESPN saying he couldn't see England losing the game. Yeah ... idiot. Always some of them out there. But also saw others being optimistic but also cautious. So you can always find the stupid ones and feed off that.

Calm down my friend and enjoy your win. I remember you cromagnum from the Spurs board when modric was playing. Please don't generalize. There's Croatian press now saying 'England beaten by World Champions'. Youre Croatian so you know that. Does that make all their fans and media arrogant? Of course not.

I think you mean our media my friend. I certainly didn't think it would be a walkover. As I said before, good luck Croatia in the final. They deserve to be there.

@cromagnum, you need to source your material or drop it.

And, no, it is not acceptable for you to tell others to look it up when you are making the claims.

Success or not is made of players or play, not those who could play. Uruguay are where they are because they didn't have anybody to fill Cavani's boots. But, had Cavani played, could there have been a Croatia/Uruguay final?

As for England...well, you play the games you get, and teams advance on merit, not divine right. Really, if Croatia are so much better than the rest of the bracket, why did they need PKs to beat Russia? Why did they need extra time to beat England. England got where they got on merit, but, to me, they also lost on youth. Sterling was not good enough with the pass. Dele did not play how he does at Spurs. Kane could not carry the team on his back (as he does from time to time with Spurs). England are a very good team, but clearly not good enough. If this group shows up in 4 years healthy, I think they will be in the favorites group.

England was motivated because of hosting issue. They wanted to have this host, instead of Russia. The trophy would be at home in that case. England might get the World Cup hosting in 2030. 100 years after first World Cup.

Tabloids mostly, they live with these sensations. Of course, serious media, like BBC have acceptable interviews and talk shows. Others like to provoke, English humoristic attitude is well known through TV Shows: Only fools and horses, Monty Python, Mr. Bean...in many people, Delboy Trotter lives.

Maybe Cahill should play, or Welbeck, who seems better than Kane in technical sense.
It's also interesting that players of Irish origins play in English team: Kane, Maguire, Cahill, maybe Dier. Republic of Ireland provides nice results to England through Rio Ferdinand, Jaime Carragher, Paul Scholes, Kevin Nolan, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney.

    Phil Jones - probably Welsh.

If we observe, they play in strong clubs: Man. City, Man. Utd., Chelsea, Tottenham...

TBH I can’t remember anyone trying to motivate the England team by saying "the Russians nicked the hosting rights from us". It’s been a non-issue for a long time now.
