The dominant American coaching tree branch: Arena - > Bradley -> Marsch As a Fire fan, it sucks to see Fire Alumni spread out in the league doing well while we are stuck with supreme idiot Nelson Rodriguez and Pauno. I don't think Pauno is a bad coach, but he isn't that good either.
I'm so very conflicted about this in a lot of ways. I'm happy for Jesse and Chris for getting their respective shots but I selfishly never wanted Marsch to go in the first place and I'm concerned about how this might effect the team's playoff push. Its awkward to have a coach leave his team within striking distance of the league's top record. The circumstances of his hiring remains controversial to this day because of the treatment of his predecessor Mike Petke, but Jesse Marsch has long since proven to be a great coach and I'll miss him in the role. At the end of the day we just lost the winningest coach in team history and now have a logical if untested replacement, that is the cold reality of the situation. Thank you Mr. Marsch. Good luck Mr. Armas.
Found this very interesting in the announcement of NYCFC's new coaches.. "[Albert] Puig joins from California youth club De Anza Force Soccer Club, where he had been technical director since 2016. Before that, Puig was academy director at FC Barcelona from 2010-2014, helping to run the famed La Masia set-up. Puig will be reunited with Torrent at NYCFC, after both men worked at Barcelona." It is really nice to see that some our youth players are getting well trained quality coaches. DeAnza was still a bottom tier team in the West, but they went from being abysmal (their U15/U16 team had less than 0.5 points per game the prior two seasons) to just under 1.7 this season for their U15 team. More importantly I heard a report that their U18 wasn't physically gifted, but played good soccer. It is second hand - but from a knowledgeable source.
Armas vs Torrent this evening should be interesting... 10 Things About Chris Armas Dome Torrent praises New York Red Bulls' style ahead of his first NY Derby
Jesse #Marsch, previously of @NewYorkRedBulls, will join #DieRotenBullen as an assistant coach. pic.twitter.com/8AXwQ36B4y— RB Leipzig English (@RBLeipzig_EN) July 9, 2018 I totally get Jesse leaving midseason to be manager of RB Leipzig. That's once in a lifetime and arguably the highest club managed by an American ever. But to be an assistant? You can wait til the seasons over, IMO. https://t.co/vjNBwlmhH9— Tutul Rahman (@tutulismyname) July 9, 2018 Meanwhile Armas loses his first game... Someone let Armas know he's the one that makes subs now that he's the head coach. #NYCvRBNY— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) July 9, 2018
James O'Connor loses his first game coaching Orlando City 4-1... Orlando now has a 9 game losing streak. Meanwhile the Earthquakes under Stahre have played 18 games (not counting their USOC loss) and somehow managed both a 7 game winless streak and a 9 game winless streak. Colorado and Hudson also had a 9 game winless streak earlier... Meanwhile Savarese's Timbers haven't lost in 12 games.
I think its pretty funny how many RB fans call NYCFC Man City Lite but they haven't screwed the team mid season this badly and honestly for nothing. Marsch could have moved after the season ended to be an assistant. The replacement also was a head scratcher for me since Wolynic is by far the better choice to replace him at RBNY but they went with Armas.
I'll parrot Doyle a bit here, but this is probably the only way an American coach will get into management of a top-tier team without being treated like Bob Bradley was. It makes great sense for him. The fact that they are pulling him mid-season means that this is a BIG deal in planning for the future management of Red Bull Football International (I made that title up). Also, this may be a reason Marsch has declined to seriously be considered for the USMNT job. All in all, this mid-season move seems a bit harsh to NYRB. Oh well.
Correct. If he had become head coach at Leipzig, it would have been suicidal, because 1) he doesn`t speak German - I can only think of 5 coaches who didn`t speak the language before they became hc at a Bundesliga club since the foundation of the Bundesliga in 1963 (Nevio Scala/Ancelotti/Trapattoni/Steve McLaren and Guardiola - although Trapattoni and Guardiola spoke at least a little bit of German before they took over). That`s why German clubs prefer tp promote coaches from their own youth academies or hire coaches from the Dutch/Austrian/Swiss league. Now Marsch has enough time to learn some German before he takes over as a hc in Bundesliga or maybe at Salzburg. In the Bundesliga there is no bias against American coaches but against non-German speaking coaches in general. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/1-bundesliga/auslaendischetrainer/wettbewerb/L1/land_id/alle 2) He now as time to get accustomed to the Bundesliga, life in Europe, etc. 3) the job would have been terrible for any coach. Since it is already known that Nagelsmann will take over in 2019, the authority of the coach would have been questioned from the start - Rangnick, as the club`s sporting director, is probably the only person whose authority wouldn`t be questioned by the players, fans, media.
Jim Curtin's MLS regular season career record with the Philadelphia Union (138 matches): 45 - 59 - 34 (1.22 PPG) Jim Curtin's first 11 matches: 6 - 2 - 3 (1.91 PPG) Jim Curtin's last 127 matches: 39 - 57 - 31 (1.17 PPG)
I also agree with Matt Doyle's take on the Marsch move... I thought Philly had improved? Just checked the standings... 1.17 PPG this season... well at least Curtin is consistent! Also talk about feast or famine, Philly's last three wins were 4-1, 3-1, 4-0, while their last four losses were 3-1, 0-2, 4-1, 0-2... at least they're more entertaining than the Sounders!
Florian Jungwirth: Asked Florian on the current state of #Quakes74, and this is what he had to say:https://t.co/vETyNb3VPK— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) July 12, 2018 What's funny is that this quote comes after a 2-1 loss to the Timbers in Portland that takes the Quakes to a 9 game winless streak, Flo's previous comments came after a 1-0 loss to the Timbers at home that was the final game of a 7 game winless streak: The Quakes beat Minnesota after Flo's previous remarks, so maybe they're "due" for a win again? It's possible, after all coach Stahre just gave the team a ringing endorsement of "not complete dog shit": Stahre: "I can accept that we lost against a good team (Portland). Before Portland, we played three solid games: Salt Lake, New England and the Derby game, as well. Everything is not just dogshit, I believe. I think we still have something, but we have to win games." #Quakes74— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) July 12, 2018
"Everything is not just dogshit, I believe." You know, when you have to tell people "Everything is not just dogshit".........that's not a good sign.
What a week for MLS coaches! Mike Petke gives us another classic line: "Drain my bank account. I don’t give a shit anymore." 1018329737893068800 is not a valid tweet id Adrian Heath continues to blame everyone but himself: Heath Mad pic.twitter.com/KMJSa1wREU— Emanuel of Minnesota (@OkayEma) July 15, 2018 As the coach does he bear no responsibility if his team can't see out games, or consistently has defensive lapses? What about the role his choice of subs played in allowing RSL to get back into the game?
Saving the best for last, Mikael Stahre: Absolute scenes in this Quakes game. Oh my god what is Mikael Stahre doing!!!! #MTLvSJ— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) July 15, 2018 Subs Godoy out at the 40th minute – no injury. Brings on Alashe for him. *Then* subs Alashe out at the halftime!!!! No injury.I can't imagine what a dumpster fire that locker room must be. Straight amateur from Stahre. #MTLvSJ https://t.co/1O38t5MKhT— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) July 15, 2018 I have never seen a head coach in any league so blatantly show up his own guys. I'm furious on behalf of the Quakes players. #MTLvSJ— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) July 15, 2018 And it needs to be said: He didn't just have Alashe stay in the locker room! He let Alashe walk onto the field just before the 2nd half started, huddle up, and then... then he sent the sub in!!!!!!Only reason to do that is to humiliate the player. Gross.— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) July 15, 2018 Here is the whole Stahre/Alashe sequence. Unreal. #MTLvSJ pic.twitter.com/5vfXWQZ82R— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) July 15, 2018

Quakes spokespeople are now saying that Alashe was subbed b/c of a groin strain. Sure doesn't look like it above.https://t.co/0ULAe4x0as— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) July 15, 2018 You can especially tell he's injured by the fact he was sent out onto the field. And the death stare all the way to the sideline.— Braxton King (@KingBraxx) July 15, 2018 Stahre and Wondolowski both say @FataiPrince27 had a groin injury. Stahre said there was not a misunderstanding, that he asked Fatai to go out in order to give @jockford time to get ready. Coach also said @a_godoy03 asked 3 or 4 times to leave because of yet another injury.— Elliott Almond (Original blue check) (@ElliottAlmond) July 15, 2018 That's the company line, however both Godoy and Alashe did not comment.
San Jose's Anibal Godoy, Fatai Alashe have strong reactions to being subbed https://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/m...montreal-impact-vs-san-jose-earthquakes/recap the real fireworks for the visiting side came from the a pair of substitutions. Anibal Godoy was subbed off four minutes before halftime and headed straight down the tunnel, and his replacement, Fatai Alashe, was removed after having initially taken the field to start the second half, was pulled with what the Quakes said was a groin strain before the opening whistle blew, and had an animated discussion with head coach Mikael Stahre before taking his seat on the bench. http://www.quakesfan.com/2018/07/14/absolute-shitshow-montreal-post-match/
