So is the bar on cautions lower for the second half? [Edit: I had a weird time lag on my feed, so this is out of context]
Getting to caution the English player before the PK was a gift to Geiger. This is an incredibly tough match to manage.
And now that the dissent is continuing he does caution. What on earth was the Columbian keeper complaining about?
The flailing about by players used to be the worst thing about our game...but now...it has been over taken. This dissent has got to stop. Every youth soccer player in the world is learning from this crap.
I think he's done a terrific job so far overall - this will probably end up being the most contentious match so far, and certainly the last 30 minutes will be so.
Cards for everything now... How many of us could come close to handling a game like this? The closest thing I've done is an ethnic/restaurant league Sunday game where each team just wants to kick the hell out of each other.
Yeah I think he's done. I think any ref who got this game would also be done. Its unlucky, but both of these teams are playing with little to no class and that makes it a very hard game to referee and a controversial one even if you make the "right" call every time.
This has been an extremely difficult match and I think Geiger is doing well. I just wish he dealt with the crowding from the Colombian players when the pk was called more quickly. I don't think it looks great that the Colombian players crowded him and essentially delayed the kick by several minutes and Mark ultimately cards Henderson after all of that.
I’ve never played in a World Cup, but I know exactly how Columbia and England feel right now. Exactly. #GeigerShow— Bobby Boswell (@bobbyboswell) July 3, 2018 Not the only tweet with that hashtag I saw after the PK. But I thought it was the correct call.
And people still think the first YC was for dissent? Right... I'll tell you what though, much like Webb in his WC final, I admire Geiger massively for keeping calm and strong in the face of intense Colombian intimidation.
There are referees on here supporting the following: - a headbutt can be something less than VC - if Geiger enforced the laws, he shouldn’t get another game - that dissent shouldn’t be punished - that Geiger is having a good match.
And this is the post you should've made. Once. Instead of again and again with the absolutist sky is falling, the world is doomed sledgehammer.
He's not having a bad game, but the idea that he's nailing this game is quite preposterous even if you're grading on a scale of difficulty.
