What were their wages over that time? Were they homegrown or who would we not of been able to bring in?

Thoughts on Januzaj? Seems to be maturing in Spain, still young and if I'm not mistaken he would be HG due to his time at ManU. Maybe not this window but worth keeping an eye on next season.

The fact that Arsenal signed Chambers to an extension to 2022 a year after signing him to an extension to 2021, clearly giving him a pay raise, means that someone at the club rates him higher than either you or I do and Wenger is no longer there.

I don’t know that I would read a whole lot into it. Could be just the club restructuring contracts after AWs departure. Maybe it’s incentivised, they added buyouts, etc. There were three years left so no threat of losing him and I don’t know of anyone who would say he’s done anything to merit a pay rise. Also, I haven’t seen any numbers have you?

Liking the looks if Torreira right now against Portugal. He even did one of those brave headers while prostrate. [emoji106]

I’m really like Torreira (sic?) from what I’ve seen so far today. He’s just an aggressive pest it looks like. Consider me sold if this transfer becomes final.

Dont we kinda want Torriera to play poorly right now and drive down demand?

Chambers has actually been good, though. People don’t like the look of him, but his performance has been much better than credited.

And £20m over four years is nothing for a player who could be a 6-8 year fixture, which he still can be.

Release clause is set, we’re only paying a little more to space it out over a few years.

Hmm. So the price won't go up, but the competition will?

whether he becomes all-world or all-pascal cygan, i think some of the same people are not going to let go of his struggle out wide against montero and his (lack of) athelticism.

My understanding was the deal is done and its a post WC announcement. Short of someone coming in and offering 150mil we are set.

Good? Depends on what you consider good. Were mustafi and Kos good last year? His numbers were comparable to theirs. That is, his numbers are what you get from a CB having an off year. IMO, good would be passing near 90% and dual rate over 50% he didn’t have that.

Of course, under Emery things may be different. I think he will get a chance to impress in the new system. If he doesn’t this season we should take a chance on another young CB.

Statistically there is not a lot of difference between the two. The reason I rate Holding over Chambers is that Holding appears to have bit of an attitude on the field, which I like in a defender (see last years FA Cup Final). Rightly or wrongly, I get the impression that if Chambers knocked you down, he would help you up, while Holding would stand there and stare down at you.

When you talk about about moving Chambers on and bringing in another young CB, I assume one of the potential targets you have in mind is Soyuncu, with his 81% pass completion rate.

Don’t know anything about Soyuncu. Not saying he’s be a better option. Quite simply I feel like I’ve seem enough of chambers to make a judgement. I’m fine with another season to give Emery a chance with him. Just saying that I don’t think he’ll make it here. Holding possibly, but I have serious doubts about him as well.
