Yea, it's hard to tell with this bunch. Not sure what to make of the chances here; hopefully someone from the area will chime in. "If David Beckham and his partners want to build a Major League Soccer stadium on Miami's only public golf course, they'll need voters to let them. As time runs tight to place a question on November's ballot, the public has yet to see any plans."
I still don't think Miami ever happens. This group has been a cluster from day one. Beckham even said in interviews during the last expansion announcement that he almost walked away.
https://www.burgundywave.com/2018/1...and-miami-sorting-out-mls-expansion-decisions http://www.espn.com/soccer/major-le...ati-to-join-mls-as-expansion-team-next-season Next year is Cincinnati then Nashville and Miami in 2020. When the Mas brother got involved it was finalized. The stadium became less of a problem because the Mas brothers have a construction company and lots of clout in the local community. They want to build something bigger than what is possible in Overtown. Also Masayoshi Son the partner from Japan is the second richest man in Japan with a 23 billion net worth. Nashville decided to push back to 2020 to get the stadium finished since Cincinnati already has a temporary stadium in place for next season.
My apologies; Apparently I completely missed that - or just dismissed it. From the Jan 29, 2018 article: On Monday, MLS officially awarded an expansion team in Miami to Beckham's ownership group, the culmination of a years-long process that nearly reached a breaking point a few months ago. MLS commissioner Don Garber said Miami will aim to start in 2020 at a temporary venue...
Either Hard Rock or FIU would probably be acceptable for a year or two. The former is a better location, the latter is probably cheaper.
I do realize they haven't kicked a ball, signed a player, announced a name, found a stadium location and until they do I am skeptical for good reason. I have been following this saga for 4.5 years. Your links are from Jan announcement. There has been no news since then other than that they have pretty much scrapped the before agreed upon stadium location. That is a step backwards.
Actually it isn't as they now have big money investors who want something more than Overtown could accommodate. Word is that it will surpass what LAFC has done. Please tell me how MLS wants to turn down a diverse ownership of two Cuban brothers with long ties to the community and a Japanese partner with 23 billion in net worth?
4.5 years and counting. Wake me when they kick a ball. We are now predicting they are going to do more than existing teams. Interesting. It is a step backwards. They had a solidified location. Now they don't. And the new location requires the public to vote in favor. I really dont think that will happen in Miami.
It'll need to be better than LAFC if they want to Cool Kids to show up...or anyone else for that matter.
The more new expansion teams invest in infrastructure, the more each teams valuation rises. Just look at what Nashville and Cincinnati are planning.
