Agree that the back 5 are not the problem

I meant how the team defends

Draxler has retired from dribbling. I recall ages ago, everyone kept praising him for his dribbling skills as a youth and that seems to over-hype him.

fastforward to the present and all he does is backpasses even when he's in a 1v1, lol. Useless player, Sane would have been a more useful option and Low's faith in Draxler was misguided.

I thought Özil was one of the taller midgets today in terms of performance but he's a victim of a poor tactical fit in this Germany squad. We really badly need more bodies in the center of the pitch who can defend. Özil simply isn't that, and he's not a winger, so he's an easy drop to get to a 4-3-3/3-4-3.

Embarrassing defeat. I can't remember the last time they looked so lost when going forward. Also, Ter Stegen would have saved that shot let's be honest.

Let's be honest the shot wasn't 100% guaranteed to be savable....it seems Neuer will get scrutinized for every goal he concedes...he has conceded many goals through his near post in the past...today's goal was nothing to do with his injury

I understand there are Mesut Ozil fanboys but it is shocking that few fans are defending him after his atrocious first half performance....there were couple of occasions he didn't care to turn to receive a pass and opponent started counter attack....

one of the biggest issues I saw from the media about Germany pre-WC is about how the old guard will do after winning the WC. Seems like a lot of them thought that those players were likely not to have it in them anymore and you increase the likelihood of players half assing.

if you look at the XI only 3/11 haven't won the WC.

Not really. In the first half he played as a 10 and I guess he can't be blamed for not dropping deeper to make it a 3 man midfield, since Loew probably strictly told him not to. However, even with the ball he only managed one particularly good pass.

Look at what Isco did or watch De Bruyne tomorrow.

In the second half Mexico tired and he was playing midfield, but did nothing of note. Reus actually had to drop deeper to help the midfield out as well.

Schweinsteiger was much, much better defensively than Kroos. Khedira was much better 4 years ago, but Loew still realised he needed to play 3 in midfield, well realised eventually.

Why does he now think Kroos and a very old Khedira can do the job young Khedira/Schweinsteiger/Kroos did? Last time Hoewdes played at left back and gave some extra cover. Now he has decided to ignore that.

I thought Hummels and Boa played well. The lack of contribution in midfield to the defense and offense was the bigger issues. More so on offense where Kroos was content to blast from 30 meters and Oezil & Draxler tried to tiki-taki it thru the middle or the "wingers" who crossed the ball in the box to nobody.

Reus needs to start each and every match from here on. He dramatically changed the match and had he played the entire 90, it may have been a different story. Draxler sucks and I hope his WC is done. Khedira too. Not much to say about Plattenhardt or Werner. Gomez looked good for his limited time though.

Hopefully Loew learned what most people already knew and changes his tactics.

You can’t blame Boa and Mats today, without them Germany’d conceded plenty more goals. Marking of the mexican attackers weren’t good sometimes, but lmao you can’t expect two players to cover that much.... however obviously and understandbly they’re slaughtered for their performance, but at the end of the day the midfield was the huge problem...

And Josh looked like an attacking player today, worst NT game defensively from him although in attack he was one of the best with Reus

Well... not what I expected, but not sure how Mexico will play against teams who don’t leave oceans of spaces... two ties and two wins by Germany, and Germany’ll top the group

Having gone through the game again it's blatantly obvious after hammering Mexico 4-1 last year with the reserves loew thought with a so called full strength line up he could basically steam roller them without giving the opposition any respect, it was basically a suicidal performance by khedira kroos in particular, followed by the wide status of draxler and muller who offord no width at all hence kimich was continuously getting caught out after his attacks

what's hilarious is how we were exposed badly vs Austria and Saudi and those are likely the games that Mexico used against us. In one of those games, Kimmich was horrible and left huge amount of spaces for counter attacks against us. Same thing Mexico used against us, the Kimmich space.

it's like Low didn't learn anything from those games. Reus was a difference maker when starting yet when the WC starts he's on the bench. He also has better chemistry with the rest of the attacking players than Draxler.

all 3 games also had in common, midfield issues, no stability whatsoever.

Hate to say this the Germany team spirit is crumbling after one game, defence blaming midfield and attack, midfielder s blaming no movement, this does not bode well

    All the complaints are true.

There were too many players lined up in the attack, which meant there was no space to move into, which made it hard for the midfield to create.

Since there were so many people standing up front in a line, there were no defenders which meant the defence was exposed.

Even now Loew has the personnel to correct the problem.

I would imagine Boateng is in full support of Hummel's view.

It looked like a team full of Ozils out there. Poor body language, no pace, no defense.

Your stating the obvious, I stated this a few days back that both khedira and kroos midfield is trouble for Germany as even the average sides have mastered the art of quick counters

Hummels and Boateng were the least to blame. Its not their fault that Low decides to play a formation of 2-0-7-1 or something. Midfield non existent and not only that but instead of players like Muller,Ozil,Kroos creating something the team was waiting for Kimmich and Boateng to get deep in the opponents half.

Totally missed tactics transition from defense to attack ZERO slow as fack. Khedira,Ozil and Draxler like i said should be benched for Goretzka,Gundogan and Reus or something similar.

I recall a time where Germany used to be pretty good at counterattacks, now it seems like everyone is good at it except for us lol. Too often one of the players instead of going forward ends up backpassing.

agreed, if one notices Sane, Brandt, Draxler all have pretty terrible numbers for the NT. None of the younger attacking players seem able to score and the older players seem to be basically going nowhere when they attack, inefficiency has hit the whole squad.

"Mexico deserved the win. Our cover was often not good and we were left many times with just Jerome [Boateng] and myself at the back," centre-back Hummels said

Germany were exposed by Mexico's counter-attacking, and if the Mexicans had been more accurate with their final pass they would not have had to endure a tense finale.

"If seven or eight players are attacking then it is clear that our attacking power is greater," said Hummels. "But that is something that I have often talked about internally. It does not always bear fruit.

"A wake-up call is too late. We now must win two games, otherwise that is that with the World Cup. I don't really understand why we played like we played because, really, we already had our wake-up call."

Germany boss Joachim Low agreed with Hummels, saying Germany "played badly," gave Mexico too much space, lost too many balls and rushed chances.

"It's an unfamiliar situation," he said, but insisted the team "has enough experience to not go under with one defeat."

Low added of Saturday's clash with Sweden: "The next game is now more important. We have to win.

"We were nervous and we weren't playing the game we wanted to play. We need to see what caused this."

Lol, it's obvious what cause this, kroos and khedira were pressed and rushed and every time they gave possession away there was tons of space behind them to counter

Tactically superb from the Mexican coach. Destroyed Germany by not being afraid to leave players up the pitch and hit them with direct balls on the counter. Marked kross out of it on build up and dragged Boateng (who moved around the pitch like a carthouse) out of position to cover. Low never made a change on the left side, possibly because he has no idea what was going on.

Mexico could have scored 5 if they got the final ball correct. Thats 5 tap in goals at that All credit to them for having the balls to take it too Germany, leaving them with no answers.
