It would really help bouy some spirits if it did come out today and it was in favor of the plaintiffs.
Our Seattle-based soccer attorney blogger posted yesterday that he'd heard that if there wasn't a ruling released yesterday, it likely wouldn't be until next week. Anyway, he's on a long weekend vacation in Las Vegas, and was hoping news out of Columbus wouldn't coincide with his trip. So today? Maybe. But we may need to wait several more days.
Just got out of a meeting in Alabama with some guys from Austin and some from Birmingham. They might know I am from Columbus, but all my coworkers are from Baltimore so who knows. As a side conversation with one of my coworkers asked me if I had watched any of the World Cup yet. The guy next to him cut in saying "That commie sport in these parts." (I am guessing these parts mean the South). Ignoring him I said I have been traveling so far and have not been able to see any games yet The guy again butted in that we should go see an American game like baseball. I thanked him for the suggestion but told him I was leaving this afternoon. The meeting ended and sure as sh!t he was from Austin.
This was my hunch following the ACC work session. They focused mostly on minor things (from our point of view): green building, clause barring relocation, sourcing local construction materials, living wage requirements, approval of advertisements appearing on stadium, more city uses for the structure. The requests by 2 or 3 of the ACC to discuss the alternative proposals for the site, traffic studies, the real costs to Austin and foregone revenues, were not engaged by any other council persons.
So the lawsuit was over seat licenses? What became of that suit? I imagine the language when you purchase the license makes it all your risk if the team moves, but if they did not get a refund on the seat license, that is really shitty.
Not to rehash things because I know we have already talked about the Browns (unfortunately). I may be intersecting a few things. I know some sources point to the various lawsuits as at least some cause for the agreement between the NFL and the City (https://web.archive.org/web/19961112100905/http://www.nfl.com/browns/agreement.html). The STH/Beder case as reported is here (http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bal-modell040501-story.html). They got the original Browns (and the championships in '01 and '13 but minus name, history, etc.), while Cleveland got the awful carcass still pretending to be a professional football team/organization. Oh and STHs got 50 bucks.
Does this look like something that the person expecting to get the results he wants would do? https://www.statesman.com/sports/pr...-plea-for-mls-support/F5tXZxWjJXl3MsfZVNOXtN/
#SaveTheCrew should purchase an add in the Statesmen that is chock full of past Precourt quotes about Columbus to let Austinites know who is trying to come to their town. "Parallel Paths."
It's strange that his open letter doesn't included "If you support Austin City Council giving me $100M in handouts to run my "successful" business, please let the city council know."
Just found this gem: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2015/12/06/columbus-owner-anthony-precourt-crew-scs-road-mls-cup Q: How connected do you feel to the city? AP: "I feel extremely connected. I feel like part of the family. The Crew now stands for one big family....It's a wonderful place that has been extremely welcoming. Ohio and midwestern values are very friendly, welcoming people and I feel like it's home." Later: "Our community has great fans."
The letter says, "Our proposal includes provisions that ensure that the property remains city owned." Yet their proposal gives them exclusive rights to buy the land at the end of the lease.
If we take the line that PSV is burning in an Austin dumpster fire, then this letter reeks of inauthentic, yawn-worthy action. If we take the line that PSV has backdoor deals made, then I am sure the outpouring support will win over the presumably already won over council. All of this seems like such a posturing farce. Eight months? I thought their "learning" started back in 2016? @hardhead - Do you think STC would take the action you mentioned? I think @zman31 mentioned something like that months ago... I would love to see a page like the one you two are envisioning.
