I'm very curious. I have heard and seen lots of QPR, West Ham Utd, and Millwall supporters to name a few. So which current NON-EPL club is the most popular in London???
Sorry Patrick, I would of answered this sooner if Id of seen it!! The most popular London club outside the Prem is by a long way West Ham. They have a huge history, especially as they had so many connections with the team that won the world cup in 1966. Also there is no other team large or small in the East of London. So they have a monopoly on the whole area. It is only recently (as you know) that they slipped out of the top league, before that they had great traditions and were very well supported with 20,000 as a regular crowd.
Rick, is Dagenham & Redbridge considered part of the East End of London? my 2d favorite English side is Leyton Orient. IIRC they almost won promotion to Division Two a few years back. The name is cool
Kind of, but they are actually in Essex, so some people don't count that. plus they are a tiny team with very little support. To be honest I forgot about Orient, they do have a large support, but again not as big as West Ham
No problem, rickbreese. My hunch was West Ham Utd. I know that the few WH Utd matches that I saw on TV a few years back, Upton Park was packed and LOUD! And most of the West Ham Utd supporters on BigSoccer are very passionate and cool people.
Isn't it still actually called Boleyn Ground? Haven't been there for years but I seem to remember it's not in fact called Upton Park. That's the tube station, isn't it?
Yeah, called Boleyn Ground now but it's like Highbury. Nobody calls it Arsenal Stadium just like nobody calls it Boleyn Ground. Will always be Upton Park!
Some people also seem to have problems with the name of Queens Park Rangers ground as well......I've always prefered Loftus Road. http://www.angelfire.com/super2/fulhamfc
Id say as a whole in London its West Ham. They have a huge season ticket number and id be surprised if they stay out of the Prem for long. They are also financially the biggest outside the Prem at the moment, without question.
Depends what part of London really, I live in Harrow (NW London) loads of Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal fans then it's probably QPR. In fact rarely do you see West Ham, Palace or Millwall fans around this way (apart from when they're playing). But if you were to go over to East/South London you'd probaly never see a QPR or Brentford fan, London is such a big place. Like what most people said earlier West Ham overall are the biggest in terms of history and fanbase, in fact they are probably bigger than Fulham and Crystal Palace.
I think west ham no question. Dagnham & Redbridge should be considered part of london because they are london boroughs London B. of Redbridge etc. Lastly what about Wimbledon? No not the Milton Keynes Dons or whatever they are called now (show how american footie is becoming) but the 'true' dons - i bet they have lots of support even though the attendence may be low
West Ham, by a mile. They are only beaten, in terms of crowds, by Arsenal, and when in the PL can expect the same sort of crowds as Spurs and Chelsea. They would as a PL team, be much bigger than Palace, Fulham and Charlton. They only have one drawback and that is a totally incompetant board of directors. The current England squad is full of ex West Ham players. They also have, along with Manchester United, probably the best youth coaching system in the UK.
--- I'm a Yank, and I have two chums that's West Ham supporters, the only Brits I know well, so that must weigh in terms of statistical probability. They're both totally daft, though, if that should be included in evaluating the information.
Don't wanna disturb your discussion. Just a map I set up some months ago: http://www.schwatzgelb.com/fotos/londonmapstadiums.jpg
I'd say West Ham. They have the most support and history of any London club outside of Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea.
1 of my mates is a West Ham fan (god knows why!), 5 r Arsenal fans but no Chelski fans. No spurs fans either. Sam
