I just want the freedom and option of tail gating, or hitting up a bar / brew pub before the game. Vote Gary Johnson!!!
Hopefully Austin City Council sees this article. Anything to give them pause and really think about what they are about to do.
So MLS claims one reason it wants to kill a team is a stadium at the fairgrounds away from downtown but will only give another city a team if they build on the fairgrounds away from downtown. Did I read the article correctly?
Tailgating is basically a manifestation of the American fetishization with automobiles, which has also led to other wonderful things like pollution/global warming and segregation/white flight. Other things that have made America 'great'.
The barbarians will gladly let you know their intentions after you have opened the gates and invited them inside...
MLS's House of Cards is starting to come crumbling down.... The bit in that article about the schools requesting 45 Million dollars and because of the stadium project are only getting 5 Million dollars is just unreal. Combine that with how much they seem to fear the financials being exposed, empty stadiums at at least 4-5 clubs in the league, and the US failing to make the World Cup... I'm starting really question the viability of the league as whole in the near term future...
Dwight: Hun! I hear that we got a new one of them soccer teams here in Austin. May: Why that sounds like fun. Let's take the kids. Where is it? Dwight: Well it is on the other side of town. May: Well that might as well be in Houston. But the kids will be happy. Let's go. Dwight: Well we have to bike there. May: What? Why can't we drive. Dwight: They only have 1000 spots for VIP's and it is really only 500 spaces since we have a dualie. May: True. What about around the stadium? Dwight: Well it is surronded by warehouses so not a lot there. But say there are a bunch of craft brewers around, we could park there. May: How close are they? Dwight: Well 15 minute walk and they have 20 spots each. May: That is not right. Dwight: We could take the train but we would have to leave 4 hours early to get there. May: The kids will be hungry where can we eat. Dwight: We could eat at the stadium. May: Great when do they open. Dwight: An hour and half before the game. May: So we will be there 4 hours early and have to wait 2 1/2 hours to eat with 2 kids. Or MAYBE park at a bar and walk in 100 degree heat for over 15 minutes. Dwight: But it new and cool hun. We could get scarves. May: I want a divorce. Dwight: Hook'em Horns?
Funny thing about Austin and the ride sharing stuff. In 2015 they shut down Lyft/Uber from Austin over security concerns. And numerous Austin specific Ride Share operations opened up. The state house passed a bill that over-rode that and Uber/Lyft returned in May 2017. National companies being sighted by PSV instead of the hometown start ups isnt very Authenticly Austin. https://www.thrillist.com/lifestyle/austin/uber-lyft-back-in-austin-heres-what-it-means-for-you https://www.statesman.com/news/stat...gns-ride-hailing-bill/Pa0AGqaHINipIUEme9MFfM/
He didn't say it was because of the stadium. The school money would come out of the budget, while the stadium is being financed with bonds. It really doesn't have any connection, other than to scare voters.
In my experience, getting an Uber can occasionally be tricky. Like the last time I was in midtown Manhattan on a Friday. All of sudden 46th Street had four black Acuras and I was supposed to get a ride from... James in a black Acura. I'm not a car guy so I don't know models, I barely know makes. How is it taking an Uber after a show or a sporting event, just in general? I drive to Crew games and concerts, but I can see it quickly getting clusterfcuky. Maybe not. Maybe this will work brilliantly for them. Maybe they can just automagically solve all congestion and traffic problems with ride-sharing. Somehow I doubt it though.
License plates are listed, though it's more difficult in states that don't require them on the front of the vehicle. I've never uber'd from CCS after a game. I have from OSU games and it was a nightmare. Bringing in another vehicle into the mess only congests it more. Plus, you'll pay surcharge if the demand is high.
So true! This slip-up may not be a huge thing in and of itself. But what it does show: they haven't done their homework. They haven't even thought about doing their homework. It hasn't even occurred to them to look into local alternatives. They could have mentioned Fare or Ride Austin, both of which I found out about after a 30 second scan of an article after one Google search. That would have bought some goodwill from the locals - something they definitely need more of.
I thought that would be the case. I don't have great eyesight, so the license plates do nothing for me. They look like smudges until I get up close.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanophilia Or better yet: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ne...899/Man-admits-having-sex-with-1000-cars.html Although that is a British person who has an automobile fetish.
Hang on a sec...wasn't Austin one of those places where hipster propensity for DIY/"modern" "sharing economy" solutions came into stark conflict with the hipster propensity to be mindless Progs politically, resulting in Uber and Lyft getting initially banned, then regulated to death so as to forcibly remove their market-discriminator qualities and essentially turn them into the cabbie auxilliary? Or did I get that wrong?
Beat me to it. So they took the market pressure created by companies people wanted to use, generated "grassroots" altetnatives out of whole cloth, and declared victory? Jesus, that's almost dumber than some cities' outright bans. It's like supressing sales of Coca-Cola in The Kingdom and putting "totally organic and homegrown" Mecca Cola in its place. ...which is, of course, French.
