Good to go! Roku app updated. WatchEspn app replaced with new one after going into settings and checking for updates.
Unpacking some ESPN terms and products: WatchESPN: this is the app/site where you access ESPN streaming channels. WatchESPN is not itself a channel. ESPN3: still alive! That's the streaming channel where you get "free" shows/games. Not really free, content is included with your internet provider subscription. Examples of things still on ESPN3: German Cup, select USL matches, etc. ESPN/2/U/NEWS/SEC/etc: the "regular" ESPN channels that are available to stream on WatchESPN and ESPN app if you have access to those channels through your cable/sat subscription. ESPN+: new channel available through WatchESPN (desktop/set top) and the ESPN mobile app. Exclusive streaming content for $5 per month including MLS out of market games, EFL, etc. ESPN+ is really like a premium, over the top ESPN3.
Anyone knows what happened to ESPNFC? Wasn't on last week. Was scheduled to be on late last night, but other crap was shown instead. Don't see it listed in its usual time & channel this week either.
I think, as reported here and elsewhere, ESPN FC is now an ESPN+ exclusive. Maybe there was a guide error saying that it would be on TV last night. I was just able to access yesterday’s episode on ESPN+. In the listing it says that it was broadcast live yesterday at 4:30 pm pacific.
Yeah my guide also had ESPNFC on TV at 12:30am this morning. Too bad, because I was hoping that maybe they decided to air one episode per week the late Sunday night weekend wrap-up. As much as I'm not really missing the weekday drivel, one thing they did pretty well was their MLS wrap-up. BeIN doesn't seem to care much about MLS.
Ah okay. I suspected that it must have been discussed here, so I did check the thread before asking. But guess the discussion occurred before the show was actually taken off TV.
ESPN FC is still on air here on the main ESPN channel although they have pushed it back 30 minutes to now starting at 8:30PM AEST but they have axed the repeat that use to air around midnight. I also noticed that the 1 hour show to kick off the week has now been reduced to 30 minutes.
ESPN+ schedule looks pretty strong. I think I'll finally break-down and pay for streaming sports for the first time in my life. When you consider the price is one-third of what FS+ costs it makes the latter look like a complete rip-off (there surely can't be more than 50 people in the entire country who knowingly pay for it). That said, I'll probably wait 'til after the World Cup to subscribe to ESPN+. Entering a dead time of the year right now and during the WC there really isn't time to watch anything but the WC.
ESPN+ will be worth every penny of $5 in May just for three divisions of English Football League playoffs, IMO.
Anybody having issues w MLS content freezing/stuttering on Roku? It’s not constant, but pops up every now and then. No other streaming app—Amazon, Netflix, HBO, etc—has any issues. Never had any problems with WatchESPN, either. It’s a Roku 3. I get about 40mbs down on my modem.
Surprised nobody has mentioned this ESPNFC has got a new logo and a new studio, they also announced that they have expanded the show to 7 days a week.
I’m enjoying not having to skip through commercials. And the extra show a week is great news. Thanks for sharing!
I just went to watchespn.com to keep an eye on the Championship playoffs, and then it became abundantly clear that this is behind their $5/mo Espn+ paywall now. I'm not subscribing for just this!
All of the playoffs are being covered. And all out of market MLS matches. And all USL matches. Hardly extortionate or a pay per match scheme.
In some markets at least, “in market” MLS games are included as well. I live in Oakland and have been able to watch Earthquakes games without any issue on ESPN+ despite the fact that the local RSN (NBC Sports Bay Area) is also showing the games.
Still not worth it in my book since I am not really an English playoffs fanatic and my Fire are playing pretty mediocre. I will just see the highlights on YouTube.
Espn FC is worth 5 bucks, IMO. I enjoy it more than that old Fox Sports World highlight show. The hosts are entertaining. MLS is the bonus. I hope the MLS rewind show with Twellman keeps going, too.
