Here's an interesting counterpoint to the constant coaching/managerial churn: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/mls/sporting-kc/article210722299.html Now, granted SKC actually has a track record of success under Vermes' stewardship......unlike JC.
so yesterday Curtin said something about how there are no easy games in MLS except when he played and Tampa was an easy 3 points. I crunched a few numbers for our pal Jimbo... Tamp Bay Mutiny- 1.36 ppg (83 W- 98 L- 6 T) Union- 1.2 ppg (85 W- 114 L- 77 T)
Jim Curtin's entire tenure is emblematic of staying the managerial course. Not only has the same guy been in charge this whole time, but the Union have achieved the same results, and not a single thing has ever changed tactically. Like, ever. So, congratulations to the Union, and the culture they have built, for being a predictable model of consistency--of some sort or another. After all, as Vermes states, players like being in an environment and culture in which they feel comfortable. Since there is a dearth of accountability, I think the Union have quite successfully achieved that.
The Fire only lost one or two games against the Mutiny while Curtin played there. But, yeah, the Union are now the Tampa Bay Mutiny of MLS.............
It's somewhat of an unfair comparison. Most of the time when Tampa played there had to be a winner and a loser. Therefore, in roughly half of the games that would end up in ties today, Tampa got 3 points rather than 0, thereby inflating the PPG. If you backed out the games that were tied after 90 minutes and assigned them one point each, the PPG might be less than the Union's.
Yeah I get that. Some wins would have been ties. However, some losses would have been ties as well. Point is if they were an easy 3 points, what does that make the Union, who have a similar ppg?
This 2-0 win against a terrible Montreal team somehow brought back the Platoon on social media and we will never get rid of Curtin at this point.
http://www.delcotimes.com/article/DC/20180520/SPORTS/180529968 “You bring up Borek and I think he was treated unfairly at the beginning of the season,” Curtin said, “by some snarky Twitter heroes.” ******** you too Jim. The dude has been totally lackluster.
You have to be kidding me. If anything I thought people were overhyping him after the signing. Especially since most had nothing but a highlight reel to go off of.
He made that comment Saturday in his post game press conference. The Union are even irrelevant amongst their diehard fans now. In seasons past fans would have been roasting the coach/gm/whomever made a comment like that, the same day within 30-60mins.
I'd like to know what the team's expectations are of a player earning $1.7m, and whether they think he's justified that so far. Oh I forgot, there is no accountability for anyone in this organization. So I'm sure they are fine.
Beyond that, the organization expects the fanbase to be accountable. Curtin, Stewart, and Sugarman are clowns.
they run away from any challenge from the fan base (who in my opinion is VERY forgiving), and the second they beat a shit team they crow about it.
Curtin is a guy who reminds everyone how Philly Tough he is, yet can't handle the most basic criticism of the most forgiving Philly fanbase.
