A good video does help get things started. While most of the "profile sites" are pretty weak, we had one that facilitated emails to teams and allowed him to update his schedule and attach the video easily. One key is making sure you have every email address for a team. The recruiting coach is rarely the head coach and the emails don't get forwarded as often as you wish.

In terms of the ivies, I don't think they necessarily cast a wider net but families may be willing to send their kid further because of the educational opportunity. If George Mason invites a kid from Texas to a camp it likely won't happen...if Columbia/Dartmouth does I think the family will think twice before saying no. Given the prospects for post-graduation soccer, the Ivy League teams should be having better recruiting success in the high to very-high gpa cohort. Aside from the full-ride DA kids, the ivies should be able to match scholarship dollars at other schools with financial aid.

The academy showcases are huge, too. Two of the schools talking with him now saw (and heard) him in Florida in December. One wasn't even a school he'd sent anything to previously. They're both 10+ hours away from home.
However the more local colleges are at regular season games and sometimes even trainings. So it totally makes sense that many coaches take what they're familiar with.

How abut UCLA's group. (Very Good) Rumor: Santa Clara, Santa Barbara, Loyola Marymount and St. John's have very good recruiting classes for 2018...along with your Akron's, Wake's, Virginia's, Michigan and Michigan States of the world.

TDS either hasn’ t the resources to scout international talent coming to College Soccer, or they continue to neglect that assignment. I hope it is the former. Anyway, I suspect that Akron’s recruiting class should be ranked higher than 10th. My record will show that I have identified previous Zips’ classes as overrated, or underrated, according to how I see it. I do not claim to always be right, but I do claim to be right about as often as TDS is.

Akron’s 2018 class is currently underrated.

Reminder: In 2010 TDS rated DeAndre Yedlin a *** recruit.

This is for the whole viewing audience not just OverseasView

Eight to ten seemed like a lot, but I noticed that the Omaha Women's team said they signed 11. Do these signees include kids that received some scholarships or does it also include walk-ons?

Not sure if this is a silly question. I know it's a small # of scholarships compared to football and few or no full scholarships offered, but I always thought they signed like five or six max in a class.

For CSUB I believe it is not walk-ons.

The high number might depend on how many seniors quitted, how many other players were not kept by the coach/school, or also left by themselves.
Then how many locals are signed and who can count on academic scholaships/loans/grants covering a good part of the studies costs, beyond possible athletic scholships. CSUB is not an expensive school.
I understand this is what all coaches do: juggle with percentages, different categories of scholarships and helps in order to build their squad.
Then they decide who are the most valuable players and thus give them the best packages.

Chris Richards, a UNC commit expected to be one of the top freshman defenders in the incoming class, has instead signed a homegrown contract with FC Dallas.

This is part of a greater trend.

Only three players from last fall's US U17 WC team are playing college soccer: GKs Justin Garces (UCLA) and Alex Budnik (Dartmouth) and D Tyler Shaver (Stanford).

Most of the top kids can't be bothered with college soccer.

Perhaps interesting that 2 out of the 3 U17 WC team that are going to college are GKs. Might have something to do with the idea that some put forward that GKs take longer to develop, and have more time to work, with in terms of becoming a pro, given the years and level of experience considered vital to being a top GK. Of course, some younger GKs have gone straight to homegrown or other pro contracts and done well too.

... but yet the top 5 rated rookies so far in the MLS are all college players including four 4-year players and four players who were drafted... now age has something to do with it but still for all the talk of removing the MLS Draft and Homegrowns dominating the MLS draft is still significant. The top rated rooking to date was a third round pick. upload_2018-4-13_10-27-14.png

At least Temple is graduating 7 seniors. Wright State is bringing in 13 new players and only graduating 3.

    https://wsuraiders.com/news/2018/2/9/mens-soccer-signs-10.aspx

Last year was pretty epic. 15 new players. They did lose some core seniors though. 8 total seniors I think.

Of course they did almost exactly the same thing for the 2016/17 season grabbing 8 new players but only losing 2 seniors that year.

The grist mill is real. Must be tough for the coaches to remember everybody's name. It's a wonder they have done as well as they have although it probably explains why they can't win that last game too.

Can’t speak for every team but a there are so many transfers, players who go pro and a lot of players who just stop playing that the ‘completion rate’ at most schools is probably far lower than most would think.

7 transfers means probably more than that were talking to Temple.

On other threads there had been discussion of student athletes having more freedom to move around. I’m going to remain in the camp that there needs to be higher standards that promote sensible movement. Creating a mercenary system that has players moving from school to school in search of playing time or better records is what many people don’t like about youth soccer.
