No, its about PSV selling locally, the Crew staying in Columbus and PSV using the money to pay for an expansion team in Austin.
Been thinking about this, and not sure if this is how it will go down. The thought is, would MLS prefer one start up or two? Whichever team end up in Austin will be a new venture. The value to the Crew is an established brand and continuity. Austin will be an ab ovo venture regardless. Keep the Crew in Columbus and put the expansion team in Austin preserves whatever value is in Columbus and allows Austin to start fresh.
It became evident back in January that it was west end or bust. Oakley was a place holder for the bid (time to get all the political leg work done in the west end) and northern Kentucky was the hammer hanging over the city’s head “we can always take our very successful business and the tax dollars/commerce that come with it to Newport.” I thought they were ********ed when CPS didn’t budget on the property taxes.
I was thinking more along the lines of a local sale & PSV getting a Beckham like deal on an Austin franchise with a timetable. Less time pressure. Try to get it right. Post position for #27-28 like Miami was for #23-24. With Cinci ALMOST over the line, though I think the chances both Columbus & Austin get in is lower. However, if they both have good ownership groups & good stadium plans, that is ahead of anyone else out there.
Im curious if MLS said anything concrete about McKalla being no bueno. It would at least show theyre not showing huge double standards by letting Austin pick a stadium location that is practically in Round Rock.
With everything involving private money this bid could go from complete silence to press conference with no warning.
Or it could be a chip to get the most out of Sacramento and Phoenix. That threat of going from 0 to 100 in no time can be very useful to get airtight bids on 27/28.
I tweeted @ her to find out if the city owns the other 25% or someone else, will post when I get a response
no idea but I knew if it was the west end this was going to be a long process. 75% is probably good enough to move forward. once the city, cps and the team sign the deal next week there's really no turning back. City can always imminent domain the property needed
Hearing the Rev. Jesse Jackson will be in Cincinnati tomorrow to speak against the West End stadium and in support of City Manager Harry Black.— Chris Wetterich (@ChrisCinciBiz) April 9, 2018 Ffs here we go....
Does anyone have a map of the property where the stadium is supposed to go? I thought I saw on in one of the articles, but haven't been able to find it. I thought they were getting property east of Stargill over to Central Parkway. I think there was also a report on WCPO where they talked to an auto parts business owner on one of the parcels who said he leased his building.
yea, that land will actually be where the new road is that's why the city could legally imminent domain it if necessary. the team will technically be swapping the land where the road currently is for the land where those buildings are.
75% of the land gets them nearly everything up to Central Pwky. Several properties are owned by a tech startup called LINSR or something like that. FCC bought a bunch of land in Oakley that they could also swap with LINSR. Frankly the Oakley site would be a good place for an office campus.
Thanks for the map. Trying to understand... 75% means the land between Central Ave and Central Parkway plus the site where the new Stargill Stadium will be built? Leaving just the transfer of Stargill to them? That looks like about 75% of the land. There are also some properties in the blocks where the stadium will be, but outside the current property which I would imagine would be nice to have too.
