It was my first thought. Then the let down settled in. But if we are being honest, this guy might play in a cup game, but not much else. I doubt we lose Rimando to any USMNT stuff this season.
If we lose Rimando to any USMNT stuff ever again then the president election for the federation went really bad and the coaching selection was even worse
I like the overall direction we're going with signings. Not sure we need another winger, but if he's versatile it might not be bad.
Maybe a Monarchs signing? He seems pretty young/raw for the first team with little club experience. I am wondering if we are going to do anything in the central midfield though. I know there have been rumors of a couple of guys, but so far nothing is happening.
A guy who plays for the u19 Argentine national team would likely be above the Monarchs level, I would think.
Update on Pablo Ruiz rumor Sounds like he could play CM, which is what we REALLY need. not another winger
Not all U19 players are created equal though. I mean, Gil played for a pretty good U20 US team. My only concern is that he's 19 and has VERY little professional game time. If our scouts found another Savarino, then I'll be ecstatic as this would be a cheap way to find a great talent.
I'd trust a u19 Argentine over a u19 US player any day. Pretty much what we need to upgrade on, so it's good news if true. I like Mulholland but he's never really going to be a starter on a championship team, and Sunny has been iffy since his injury. Having Mulholland as a backup will be nice, or playing CDM at times to let KB rest will be nice.
I think the confusion is that his Transfermarkt profile says "Left Midfield", which can mean Left Wing, or left-sided shuttler/midfielder. So it sounds like he's a left-footed box to box guy.
Little to be found on the nets about Mr. Ruiz. Described as "el volante de inferiores". Volante being the general term for midfielder. Anybody familiar with the full context of this term? Played attacking midfielder for Argentina when he was 15. Was scouted by FC Barcelona after a good showing in U-17 South American tournament. In recent matches (last fall), was a mixture of starting and coming off bench. If lineup chart is to be believed, it appears the team was playing with dual pivots at holding mid in a 4-2-3-1 and he was primarily inserted into that role. He's a small guy, so would be interesting to see his bite. Nickname: Quique (I thought that was usually a nickname for Enrique?)
"Inferiores" would mean something about being less than or could also mean something like held back or behind. So it is like saying he is a deep midfielder.
From what I have seen of him he's good side to side with the ball, good defensively and good going forward in transition. The concern I have at this point is that he's not afraid to get into a tackle but can be a little clattering in some of his tackles. The Chilean league is a little choppy and he seems to get away with it most times. Hopefully we can work that out of him and it's just "being young".
Can this comment be considered confirmation that the team's going after this kid? Done deal already? What???
