Shame Marseille has a nice stadium.

One of the player I know Lois Roche has signed for the Serie B team in Florence. Squad number 93.

I introduced her to the agent who found her this club.

Congratulations, here the news from the club website:
    http://www.cfflorentia.it/lois-roche-centrocampista-inglese-la-florentia/

Florentia is a young and very ambitious club, not linked to Fiorentina nor to any men club: last season they were promoted in SerieB and now are leading their group by 3 points. The goal is clearly to win the group and playing in SerieA next season and, along with Lois Roche, they signed the Swede forward Jenny Hjohlman, who played last season with Orebro and has some caps with the NT too..
(By the way, their shirt colour makes me think of an english football/rugby team, is hard to find horizontal stripes in the italian club shirts...)

I think she actually is an American, at least she was raised there. At Connecticut fotball club in her youth and went to Fairfield University. But since 2009 she have played in different Swedish clubs fighting to stay in the top tier or to get promoted to it.

In the club website she's stated as of USA origin and Swedish passport, and probably it means that has been/will be easier to get the international transfer to play here.
By the way, do you know Jenny Hjolmann, wha has just been signed by the Florentia club ? Last season she played with Orebro, looks like a very good signing for a SerieB italian team...

She used to be a reliable goalscorer but then had some injury problems. Only scored one goal in the last two seasons in Damallsvenskan and got relegated with two different teams. Would be a nice change if she could get promoted now.

Sounds reasonable, she is a hardworking and reliable player but a far bit from what either US or Sweden would consider WNT quality.
Is she can come up to her level from 2013 to 2015 she is, didn't really followed what happened to her in 2016 she just kind of disappeared and didn't really turn up during 2017.

The main sponsor of the SerieA "I dolci Sapori", that had been lead in with a big announcement at the start of the season (and, as I wrote in that occasion, that I never heard of before) went bankrupt last month, raising some serious questionings about the standards used by our soccer Federation in choosing this sponsorship....
Here some info for those interested to go into this awkward situation, although I think that the best has yet to come...

That's incredible: I guess it's only in Italy that similar things can happen involving the National Federation. I am disheartened. :(

A fascinating report from Italian woso in 1972. Norwegian broadcaster NRK visits Sif Kalvø in Rome. She talks about 6-7000 spectators every time they play outside Rome. What an era!

The problem is that Italian best talents thrived in the '70s-'80s, when no official Women's World Cup existed. Our strikers were very good and they were tested at international level: we were playing the likes of Betty Vignotto (107 goals in 109 caps with Italian NT) who retired in 1989, two years before the first WWC in China, and Carolina Morace (105 goals in 150 caps) who retired in 1997, in-between second and third WWCs (Italy qualified for the first tournament, at a time when it included just 12 teams in the world, and lost 3-2 in the quarters to eventual finalist of Norway, while Morace scored 4 goals in that edition [the same as Pia Sundhage: yes, she was still playing, back then :giggle:; two more than Mia Hamm!]; they didn't qualified for second one instead).

Italy wasn't bad at all in the '70s-'80s. Ok, Mundialito was just a small invitational event held in Italy, but, according to Wikipedia, it was "one of the most prestigious women's football events, prior to the advent of the Women's World Cup and Womens' Olympic Football", Well, Italy won it twice, beating the likes of (then West) Germany and USA!
    Then, the sad downfall. :(

The first game the U.S. Women's National Soccer team played was in Italy in 1985 -- and they lost.

Read the Wikipedia article, "1985 United States women's national soccer team." It's a good story.

Nearly all the players soon retired from soccer and moved on with their lives -- but Michelle Akers was on this first team.

I like that we apparently keep having a close fight between Juventus and Brescia. :)

Despite their big money, Juventus didn't completely take over without resistence from previous powers. :giggle:

Hi folks, it's been a while since the last time I posted here...I just wanted to congratulate Italy for your great game against France, you really deserved that draw (and actually could had won the game). Ok France had the most talented players, physically-technically a level above but Italy showed a fighting spirit which surprised many in France including myself....after being completely dominated in the first half le Azzurre didn't put their hope down and actually fought till the end, I actually thought they would have been physically exhausted after 70 minutes maximum but I was wrong as France actually looked more tired by the end of the game.
Coach Bertolini is doing a great job, I'm not a fan of the 4-4-2 tactical formation but it is the easiest to execute for players and when the very interesting Bergamaschi came on in the second half your team caused us many problems, I don't know if you will qualify for next WC but you are definitely improving a lot as a team. My individual players notes:
Giuliani 6: She made a technical mistake when France scored but overall did well, specially dealing with aerial balls. I've never been a fan of her but I'm changing my mind, she's the typical GK who progress a lot with experience so her best will come in 3-4 years.
Guagni 6: Could have been expelled but her tackles despite being dangerous had not bad intentions. Showed great captain leadership overall.
Linari 5,5: Same with Guagni, she is a fighter but with another referee she could have been expelled. Very physical, to the limit, plays as usual
Salvai 6: In trouble in the first half, she woke up and had an excellent second, excellent game reading and positional sense .
Bartoli 5,5: Suffered Diani a lot all game long, but the French winger couldn't score or provide an assist so that's fine....kept on fighting all game long.
Galli 6: First time I saw her play after hearing a lot about her, lost in the first half...our goal was her double mistake...recovered well in the second, at 21 years old this are the game which makes a player progress and Aurora will.
Rosucci 6: First half to forget, better in the second but she has the talent to do way better....needs to take Italy under her wings.
Gilonna 5,5: Great experience to play against France at only 18 years old but she's too far for that level for the moment..However, I got a feeling she'll be better soon.
Bonansea 6: She continously tried to provoke France defence, make things happen, didn't really succeed in the first half....better in the second. It was very hard for Barbara against Majri, however when she changed side, she did created some things with her usual runs.
Sabatino 5: Daniela has always been one of my very favorites Italian players, but France CB are too much for her at this point of her career.
Girelli 7: Not only the goal but her constantly dropping to help midfield or even defense underlined the high team spirit of Italy, and she did it all game long.
    Fanstastic performance.

    substitutes:
Bergamaschi 7: Never saw her play before, left me very Impressed (and even French journalists) when she came on she caused many problems to Majri with her directness, pace, technique. Italy you got a very talented in Valentina.
Giancinti: can't give her a vote because she didn't play for long but from the little she showed it's clear physically she can compete at this level.
    Adami: didn't play long enough

coach Bertolini 7: Now I'm sure Italy is in the right hands with her.

    Welcome back, @debzy! :)

I hope you're going to stop around again, even if not as often as in the past!

For your information, she's one of the members of the U-17 team that won a totally unexpected bronze at U-17 WWC 2014 in Costa Rica. That group of young talents could become more and more important for the development of our Senior NT.

Welcome back Debzy, it's really pleasant to hear from you some thoughts about the italian NT !
About Bergamaschi, she is doing really well in Brescia this season, she's the 3th scorer of the club after Girelli and Giacinti, although the real leader of the team is Girelli, as you rightly pointed probably is the best season for her so far not only as a top scorer but as well as a full pitch player....
About Benedetta Glionna, actually she 's doing really well with Juve, 6 goals so far, but probably is not accustomed to real high pace challenging matches; but we have to consider that last season she was still playing in Serie C, so the jump ahead has already been very big for her....

Hi guys, I just find out there is another French player in Serie A, Felicite Hamidouche playing for Ravenna. Great to see Felicite there, she's a lovely person and an excellent footballer too with many Junior NT calls...I hope she enjoys her time in Italy.
By the way did you know how many French plays in Italy now? I counted Hamidouche, Daniel, Rinaldi did you know more?

Hi, @debzy. Unluckily I am not following much Italian League, these days, and I see @gricio61 is probably too much busy to keep this thread updated.

I don't know any other French presence in Italian League, but this doesn't mean much, because I am not a close follower.

I am starting following much more our NT, who recently reached the final of Cyrpus Cup a match-day in advance, and will play tomorrow an almost just "training match" vs Finland. After Cabrini's years, it looks like Milena Bertolini is finding the right formula for our team, and with players like Bonansea, Girelli, Sabatino, Bergamaschi and more, we could even hope finally getting back to WWC! :)

I still couldn't find highlights from the match Italy NT won in Moldavia by 1-3, but the real goal that keep our hopes high was scored by Dolores Silva in the other match of the day: let's enjoy the last minutes of one of the craziest games lately, Belgium-Portugal:

Now not losing vs Belgium tomorrow in Ferrara should be quite good enough for us on the way to qualification  (although of course a win would be even better! :giggle:)

@gricio61, although it's a lot I don't hear from you, I really hope that you were in Ferrara today to watch our NT beat Belgium! :)

As I just wrote in the Uefa World Cup Qualifiers thread, it was a very convincing performance from Italy, and I now believe that we'll finally be back at WWC after 20 years.
