With Ronaldo you usually get two extremes. You never really get a middle ground opinion. Andy Carroll...smh

The idea that CR7 never had any real natural talent is incredibly moronic. o_O

Yea, that was one of the points that was exaggerated. I think it's more fair to say that he just had less natural talent than the likes of Ronaldo,Messi,Ronaldinho,Zidane etc.

The definition of talent is broad. If anything CR7 lacked not on itself but in comparison with players you have mentioned is "feel for the ball" and "playmaking / creativity". Basically he was always more "mechanical" in comparison. Which is why i in general will rate those players higher, despite CR7 outperformed them in certain aspects such as goalscoring and longevity.

Ronaldo in hes prime was as good a winger you could get in football, combined with the fact he would outscore any striker in the world by a long way. The only thing ronaldo lacked was masterclass passing. No idea were people get this nonsense of him being only a goalscorer and lacking talent. He was ridiclous in hes teenage years.

Haven't followed the discussion, but Ronaldo was one of the most talented players of his generation. Everyone could see greatness in him from his teenage years. This narrative of "limited talent, inhuman hard work" is just stupid and not worth any further attention whatsoever.

Now though? Seems past it, unfortunately. Really needs to get his act together for the remainder of the season.

What if Cristiano wasn't so stubborn about modifying his game to be more of an all out striker? That's the ONLY way he can play till he is 36 like he wants to. But he has refused to do it. It's not like he can't. Guy works so hard and is one of the GOATs of the game. He just doesn't want to. So many players have made that transition I don't understand the pushback. If anything it would put him in the spotlight even more which is what he has always craved.

He did it last year, moving better between the lines, making runs behind the defenders. He's reverted back to his old self this year. Not sure why, I still believe it's mental and because he's not "happy".

He has been playing as a striker for the past few seasons; definitely made the transition when it was needed. Problem now is he can't score.

Considering psychology especially in case of Ronaldo i think the realization of not being effective on the flank anymore where he built his legacy was incredibly tough on him. Basically taking his speed away is like taking birds wings away.

Ronaldo is supremely talent. There's no way he would have been the best player in England by 22 and won the Ballon D'or by 23 by just working hard.

The players that relied more on hard work than talent were more often journeymen that made it to the top when they were nearing 30.

He's more talented than the vast majority of youngsters out there. Could you imagine the likes of Sane, Martial, Sterling, etc having the kind of seasons he did from 06-08 for United when he was at a similar age to what they are now?

Ronaldo will bring this team further down unless he accepts the striker role and stop doing anything else. This will clear up the formation and I think also help him to sustain his goal rate, which lets be honest, is the only thing he cares about.

Ronaldo rarely tries to play on the flank anymore so this is a bit of a moot point. He's just in some horrible form. Our current formation doesn't even utilise wingers. It's the FBs that provide the width.

I'm sure he'll bounce back. I don't think he's any worse physically than 12 months ago or some of the games on the back end of the 14/15 season and start of the 15/16 season where he struggled. Just 4-5 months ago he was as sharp as ever against Barcelona in the Super Cup. The whole team is actually playing poorly so it's a different scenario.

Actually in this seasons he spends quite a while on left flank towards center.

Considering he must play - sadly, Zidane should instruct him to play as pure striker. Dont drift wide, dont drift deep, just be upfront near the goal.

he constantly play on the flank and starts the movement from there. if he is a 9, I want to see him, just him, in the center up front when we defend, but that's not the case for most plays this year.

He's gonna be 33 in a month. This is the last summer where he can be shipped out without it being another Iker/Raul situation. The MLS perhaps?

Ronaldo won’t do MLS now, impossible. How is that even brought up by people. The guy can still be a major star for many clubs in Europe, why would he throw away his legacy to go play in the MLS at 33? 100% won’t happen!

The diss on Rondo on this board is over the top. We all know he needs to play less, but some people diss him like he's Emerson .

There's the reality and then there's the fantasy land. He is nowhere near being fast now, he's awful at taking players 1 on 1. He doesn't track back and and it's never his first plan to assist someone. His finishing and shooting is only getting worse. It's like his heading ability disappeared. His free kicks are probably the worst from the main takers in top 5 leagues.
He averages 7.5 shots per game in UCL and 6.4 in La Liga.

The fact is that he's currently a black hole for the team. A hole where the vast majority of our balls go to and they're just wasted. What's left of him is his desire which is a double edged sword.

At the moment very very true, unfortunately I don’t see him being benched so let’s hope for a turn around in fortunes for him

The guy had three more kids this year, his family help him out but I think he's probably not going the extra mile in his training anymore and it's showing. Probably doesn't care as much as he used to but he still wants to play every match and be the main man.
