I talked to @MARLYG94 about his first #USMNT callup. Here's what he had to say: https://t.co/VxeNt6aPBx #rapids96— Daniel Boniface (@danielboniface) January 8, 2018
No. Or with some context as above which NZ players matters, < quality than Chris Wood doesn't really move the needle.
As suspected, this "rumor" seems to be coming more from the player/agent than anywhere else: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/42610221
I'm excited to have Castillo join the Rapids he'll make a very good left wingback. I'm not sure the Price is right for the Rapids that is unless there are some other moves being made in the midfield which includes unloading a player or two - especially internationals.
Its significance is that he doesn't take up an international slot on the roster which can then be used for another player. This is also why some have been wondering if/when Badji will get a green card.
Ah, OK, that makes sense. I'm not a fan of recruiting players for the national team. And I don't think either of these two are good enough, although I'm not really paying attention to our national team until about the year 2020.
Yes, to add more details, what MLS calls domestic or international players are really "can work in the U.S. without a visa" or "can't work in the U.S. without a visa". This is because of the anti-discrimination labor laws. MLS has to treat everyone the same regardless of country of origin if they can legally work in the U.S. without a visa.
To be able to play for the National Team you have to be a citizen, not just a legal resident. So even though he has a green card Sjoberg wouldn't be eligible unless he gained citizenship. This is different than say, Jermaine Jones, who was an American citizen by birth since his Dad was an American solider who met his mother while stationed in Germany where JJ was born. Pablo was a "naturalized citizen" and played for the Nats so that route isn't always a bad one.
OK. That makes sense. And let me be clear, I'm not judging who is an American or not, especially the son of a servicemen. And I don't mind reaching out to dual citizens, but I don't like recruiting guys who could get citizenship who otherwise were not planning to. I'd rather not be good than change the definition of national teams.
Clear your schedule and meet us in front of this mural at 4 PM! There’s a rumor that we’re announcing two new signings today and we want your help in welcoming them to Colorado. pic.twitter.com/gwdEZBE98s— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) January 8, 2018
Kudos to the rfo for at least getting some off season interest. May or may not be enough, but seems nice compared to past years. Rod
Howard is in town today to help announce the USL team: Very excited to see professional soccer coming to my hometown of Memphis! The ownership is fantastic and the future looks bright. I'm looking forward to supporting @USLMemphis #USL2Memphis pic.twitter.com/OpHX1ZXNhk— Tim Howard (@TimHowardGK) January 8, 2018 In other, related news: Tim Howard lives part-time in Memphis. How did I not know that?
You're anti-David Regis (which I think is the last time the U.S. did what you're suggesting), which I can't blame you for. Thus my prediction that Howard plays out his Rapids contract through 2019, then joins Nashville in 2020 for their inaugural season as a coach or a backup keeper/coach.
IIRC, Howard's ex-wife is the sister of former MLS player, Richard Mulrooney, who is from Memphis. I think I read she relocated back to Memphis from Liverpool with the kids after the divorce.
I just read that. Have to say, no matter how it turns out, at least next year will be totally different.
JUST IN: #Rapids96 add Edgar Castillo from Monterrey, Jack Price from Wolverhampton Wanderers: https://t.co/eWxzzUucoA by @johnmeyer— Denver Post Sports (@DPostSports) January 8, 2018
Not sure how I feel about the Rapids' 2018 theme involving a Monty Python quote https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/And_Now_for_Something_Completely_Different
Thanks to everyone who came to welcome @jacko_8 and @edgarcastillo40! pic.twitter.com/q7Kv7aLQir— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) January 8, 2018
45 minutes after the "event" and this is the only thing on Rapids social media or their website about it. Great job with that outreach guys. SMH.
@ColoradoRapids plan to play with three centerbacks this season, with Marlon Hairston and new acquisition Edgar Castillo as wingbacks.— John Meyer (@johnmeyer) January 8, 2018
