I'm glad to see this and hopefully Cincy and Sac will get the other 2 spots and move Miami in to the 27 or 28 spot since all 3 of these teams seem to be farther along then them.
With all of the Euro-centric names in the league now, I’m surprised an MLS team hasn’t incorporated the year of their creation into their name by now. In a league with three Uniteds, I’d be fine with Nashville 2018 or similar.
I'm surprised they made it, I thought this was a ways behind Sac and Cinci who have more tangible signs of fan support and owners just as good as the other two bids, though I'd certainly put them over Detroit. Congratulations to them, here's hoping their as into a new soccer team as they are the Preds.
Jimi would like a word with you. So would these guys: This guy's posse is over on Broadway, but they'll be with you in a minute: Genre hit wonder my ass...
Nashville SC went from NPSL to USL and now to MLS in a little over 5 years. Who says there isn’t pro/rel in the States?
Excited... this feels like a second team more than a rivalry, although not as much so if it was a team in the Carolinas.
Houston tried to. And then a politician said it was insensitive to Mexicans. No Mexicans actually cared, but they changed the name anyway. I believe the team name was Houston 1836. They had a logo and everything. http://www.chron.com/sports/dynamo/article/Houston-soccer-team-will-86-its-1836-name-1881955.php
Dude, I was born and raised in Seattle. The fact that a one hit wonder novelty rap guy is your number three Seattle band says it all. Seattle is Jimi Hendrix, The Presidents of the United States, and then a bunch of dated crap (IMHO). OOHH, BARACUDA! I'l give you the Super Sonic Soul Pimps, the most underrated band of all time. Probably Seattle's biggest contribution to the music world.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but Jimi was born in Seattle, but there is nothing particularly "Seattle" about his music. He wasn't at the forefront of some bigger Seattle musical movement.
Anyone know how the NHL team came up with Predators ? Tennessee Titans kind of flows well. This may be a case of letting the name stay generic Nashville SC and let a nickname grow organically. But, I am sure if you asked people all around the country about Nashville, most think country music and yet the NHL or NFL did not play off that. So if MLS could, that could be a real cool connection.
When the ground where Bridgestone Arena is located was being excavated, they found fossils of a saber tooth tiger below the surface. The owners named the team the Predators based off of that.
If Cincy is selected in this round, I wouldn't be surprised to see them begin play in 2019 with Nashville plus either Miami or Sacramento, starting play in 2020. They could play at Nippert until the new stadium is done.
IDK but they started out life as the Hampton Roads/Norfolk Rhinos but Norfolk's Arena deal fell through and they moved the future expansion team to Nashville but I'm not bitter or anything....
I wonder if there's any concern that acknowledging that Nippert is fine for a couple years might undermine their efforts to finalize the political processes behind the stadium.
Seattle had a big Jazz scene... Hendrix had influences from that. You guys keep only thinking of anything recent. https://www.npr.org/2015/03/12/3925...seattle-one-of-the-most-important-jazz-cities Oh, Sir Mix Alot had more than one song. You know that his previous album went platinum? This all started with people bringing up cities with blues and jazz history. Seattle is part of jazz history.
I'm not from Seattle, only been there once, and didn't like it. But it is a music town and has had a very influential scene. For instance it would be hard to ignore the influence of Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam and the "grunge" movement or Seattle sound, that helped make rock music interesting again. Never mind that grew out of the hard work that many other Seattle rock bands had been doing since the 80s. Like Screaming Trees who probably put out of the most perfect hard rock albums ever in "Sweet Oblivion." Never mind that Mark Lanegan keeps putting out amazing and diverse albums.
BTW I'm not arguing that Seattle's music history is equivalent to NOLA. That's crazy talk. I'm just pointing out there's a hell of a lot more than Nirvana and Pearljam. (And Jimi, Heart, and Sir Mix-a-Lot were the easiest 3 to come up with while posting on my phone on vacation)
