Pulisic calls out Arena, Kinnear, Vermes, Porter, Curtin, Olsen, etc. https://www.theplayerstribune.com/christian-pulisic-usmnt-world-cup/ I also understand, of course, that — even with the option to leave — leaving the States might not be for everyone. Staying is fine, and I totally respect it. But at the same time, I’ve gotta say: It really does frustrate me, when I watch MLS, and I see our best U-17 players — who, again, are so talented and so capable — being rostered … but then not being put on the field much to actually play. I watch that, and I just think about how I was given a chance … a real chance … and it changed my life. Why then are we seemingly hesitant to allow these other talents to blossom? Okay not directly...
It’s very frustrating. At the start of the season Porter put Marco Farfan in at left back when Vytas got injured. He played very well. He was a threat going forward. While he made mistakes, I thought defensively he was very solid. He just needed game time. The talent is there. Then he got the flu. Vytas came back. We didn’t see him again. Pissed me off to no end.
Farfan was injured for a while midseason and couldn't even play for T2. But yeah, he had earned some more time before his injury. Ebobisse got decent time, especially after Adi went down. There's a really steep drop off between he and Adi/Mattocks that there isn't between Vytas and Farfan. Vytas is better, of course, but not so much better, especially defensively.
I think that was the biggest hole in CP's argument. Play a kid for no other reason than he is 17? OK. Not everybody is Pulisic, or will become him if played by the first team.
BREAKING: Multiple league sources indicate Caleb Porter is out as head coach of the Portland Timbers https://t.co/fEA6XygeeK pic.twitter.com/LTVTopeEch— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) November 17, 2017
Really. The link should be working now, but if not: https://t.co/9GRgoxudyc— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) November 17, 2017
Don’t get me wrong, Porter is crap, but WTF?? He only got them top spot in the West this year. Although, it does mean the Timbers may be avoiding the crap year of Porter’s cyclic career with them.
Would not have expected this one. Porter has had a lot of success recently in Portland. No wonder the city is named for him.
Porter is gone.. dear god tell me Pablo Mastroeni is out the country or at very least about to coach the Cosmos
Well that is surprising news for sure. Porter isn't someone I necessarily like as a coach but he was a good fit for the Timbers but whatever was going on behind the scenes must have been enough to come to this...
Stumptown Footy is reporting that it was not a mutual decision, but rather that the the Timbers front office had no idea this was coming, and that it was all Porter's choice. And speculate.....now.
Yeah. That was my guess as well. Not the first time that rumor has come up, either. Before Galaxy inexplicably hired Onalfo, I and others though Porter was the choice.
....but, wouldn't there be some indication that Shmid was was out? Or at least that he had been named to a FO post?
Given how much Portland's GM (Wilkinson) seems to like Argentinians, it wouldn't surprise me if Portland went that route for their next coach. Tata Martino proved he can do well in MLS and Wilkinson values Valeri's input (hence the signing of Blanco), so I could see that happening. Schelotto, maybe?
