He lives there. Not sure why, but I guess I would indeed consider Vancouver if I had all the choices in the world, like he does.
De Laurentiis blasted Ventura and Tavecchio after their failure to qualify. But how many Italians are getting CL and other big game experience with Napoli? Any owner who has only 1 Italian in their starting 11 has no right to throw stones.
They've been reading this thread Buffon should also move immediately into a position at the FIGC upon retiring this year. The organization needs to get some respect back and Gigi can bring it.
So players are suddenly qualified to act as administrators? The worse thing is to have a former player, especially a high profile one as president second guessing every move his coach makes. Might as well put Berlusconi in the position.
I kind of agree. I don't know how a great former player will suddenly be able to place Italy or anyone else into a second round of a WC and beyond. Platini seemed to be the figurehead at France 1998 but I mean that team also had great players. He certainly didn't do anything to put France into the final. Gigi Riva was a longtime spokesman for the Italian national team but I don't think he did much either other than consoling Roby Baggio in 1994. Funny thing. I see Pavel Nedved, Javier Zanetti and Francesco Totti sitting in the stands in their new suites looking important and wonder exactly what it is they do? Do they really bring anything to make the club better? Somehow, I don't see how they can. The only one that I can see who brought a profitable player to the clubs was Leonardo Araújo who discovered and brought over Kaka at Milan and I believe he found Pato as well. They were both bought for a "cheaper" amount , utilized the player's services and sold for a profit. Other players did well at other lesser clubs but Leo is the only one I can name in recent memory who actually brought something to a top club.
But these former players are doing so at the ground level. They are used for player evaluation, as a possible conduit between management & players and for public relations because of their ties to their clubs. Platini worked his way up, first as coach and then as the WC director. I would not mind an Albertini or Tomassi who have cut their teeth working at some levels within the FIGC than promoting a Maldini, Buffon or Pirlo because they were a popular player.
Maldini is somewhat of an administrator /owner in Miami ,even if its a poorer league, He was a player from 1985 to 2009 so I'm sure he knows something about what he is doing both on and off the field. He hired his friend Nesta and obtained good results (for that league anyway). I don't think you can automatically teach skills or tactics to a bunch of players on a national team that comes together maybe 5 times a year with different players from entirely different clubs and backgrounds. Maybe if the team played together more often or had more tournaments and friendlies, things could improve with former players in charge but it won't happen when you bring in a different group every 3-4 months at a time. You can argue it use to work but use to no longer exists. After two first round exists and an elimination obviously, things aren't the way they use to be. I remember complaining about the eliminations after WC 2002 and 1998 but I've never seen anything like the last 7 years. Ironically and traditionally, Italy always did good in the WC and poorly in the Euros and now it seems to have reversed.
It is the Cascadia subduction zone, and it will happen there some day. He lives in a large beach side house that in that photo is at the base of the mountains in the background, about 1/4 of the way in from the left A ridiculous amount of Ferraris, Lambos and Maseratis in that area.
Thank you for schooling me on where San Andreas fault ends, and where Cascadia fault starts. I think at the end of the day they are pretty much about the same, but who's counting.......LOL
Ancelotti’s partner/wife is from Vancouver. That is why he resides there. I wonder if he is a Canadian immigrant.
Being a former great player gives you zero qualifications to run a Federation. In order to change Italian football, you need to be a visionary and a strategist...you have to be political, be organized, understand business, and have a thick skin. Being a great player doesn't really give you much of any of that. I'm not saying an ex-player can never be a great leader. However, we shouldn't automatically assume someone like Maldini or Buffon will know what the heck they are doing. We need someone at the top of the FIGC that is a) honest and not corrupt, b) has the palle and influence to take on the clubs when needed, c) has political capital to make the changes needed, and d) has the intestinal fortitude to see all of it through without giving up. A great CT can only do so much. We need a system behind him to give him the talent pool he needs.
He married some Canadian chick, then probably started missing all that Euro footie action, lost his head and dove to Italia again
By the way, I'm still MASSIVELY hurt about either Holland and Italy not qualifying!!! This is very, very painful!!!! Whats even worse is opponents are mocking us
Let them.....Contrary to what they hope , even with the both of us " of of the way " , they are probably still no more likely to winning either another WC or their very first WC. I've already remembered who the trolls were , in the event that happens. If they haven't noticed , the disparity among national teams is at the smallest it's ever been ( no coincidence really since the formation of the EU and Bosman Ruling ) so Iceland could be raising their first WC just as easily as a traditional power winning another )....So again let them dance now and rub salt , which is truly classless imo , as the football gods tend to remember these things later on
Cascadia Subduction Zone has the potential of 30 times more force and destructive power than the San Andreas fault. Like the difference between Italy not making the world cup and USA not making the world cup.
