Could you possibly, please, send over contact information for someone at the @SFDeltas? (Beside the PR email on their website and @MBBerson on here)... I'm hoping to get this right. Sorry the complication arose.— Daniel Mano (@DMahno) November 16, 2017
Would've been a scoop if they actually did any reporting. They have backtracked on their earlier claim: http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/11/...olds-after-winning-title-in-inaugural-season/
It's not the San Jose Mercury News and has not been for some time. It's simply The Mercury News. That way they can proudly proclaim Fake News from other places when it suits their editorial biases, including their notion that soccer sucks and can never succeed in America. That's obviously why they jumped the gun; they were so exuberantly elated by the single-sourced tweet that they called news. It confirmed their preexisting prejudice. I wonder if they ever wrote another word about the San Francisco Deltas during the team's entire existence.
OK McQuack, go quack your way back home with this. Stick to the facts....... In regards to the Mercury News report from last night, a source within the #NASL League Office has told me that they are actively trying to save the @sfdeltas.— Chris Kivlehan (@kivlehan) November 16, 2017
They’re still a dead team. No FO, players, coaches. Hell the current owner gave away the team benches. There’s your facts kid. If they limp into next year it’s because Silva and Rocco decided to foot the bill. But, hey you’re welcome to continue to be naive.
This. They’ve lost all staff, players, equipment, etc... yet they’re magically going to be “saved”. Meanwhile NASL lost North Carolina this morning officially as well.
I really hope he is a troll (Earthquakes). I would actually respect that....and it will have been a good troll TBH. I never get sucked in, and even I am pretty sure he isn't a troll, so that would be a good one. Otherwise....even for a kid....sigh.
Despite what came out in the court case (the Deltas are kaput), there may be legal and financial reasons to maintain this limbo for a while. I expect that's what's going on here.
You’re probably spot on. If they can hang on as a legal construct, since they’re clearly not a functioning team anymore after Sunday, they may still garner some benefit if NASL prevails in its lawsuit against USSF.
Another aspect of the not "officially" dead business: Update re: Deltas.Am told that the contracts of current @sfdeltas players run through Dec 31st, and will be honored. Players allowed to negotiate w/ other clubs. To explicate on what I've been saying on mechanism of survival for team -— Nipun Chopra, PhD (@NipunChopra7) November 16, 2017
Exactly, they're just not officially dead yet on paper. But the players are free to find other teams that will be playing next year, the coach already has done so, several high ups in the FO are gone already, and the low level folks have been let go as well... But folks can go on believing that they're not dead yet for all the good it will do the Deltas.
All semantics. A doctor will tell you they are doing CPR, trying to save a life. The second your heart stops beating, though, you are clinically dead. Deltas are clinically dead. NASL is desperately trying (maybe) to perform CPR, hoping for a miracle.
