Kinda of like anyone that thinks Soldier field is better than Bridgeview doesn't know anything about Chicago since Briidgeview is clearly better for some people in the South East suburbs. LAFC is 2.5 miles from Staples Center among other things. Stub Hub is 2.5 miles from South Bay Pavilion Mall.
Looks like Seattle is only opening up 5 upper deck section on the east side. I think that makes the capacity around 42,000. https://www1.ticketmaster.com/seatt...n-11-30-2017/event/0F00534483D81621#efeat4212 I wonder if they would have opened more of the stadium if it was Portland instead of Houston.
The SE suburbs shouldn't really be a consideration for the ideal location for a SSS in Chicago. South Loop or North/Northwest suburbs would be streets better.
Nah, Portland was able to get their stadium situation set up with the city. They set up barricades and signs about construction yesterday morning, 12 hours after they were eliminated from the playoffs.
LA last won hardware in 2014, DC in 2013. Also, if we're being honest DCU is the most successful MLS team in terms of trophies won (1 more than LA). Yet you ask how long it has been since DC won? Which is it, today matters or it doesn't? Yes, they've splashed for names and it doesn't change the past -> which includes DCU. Though, they're about to be 2nd fiddle in their own market. Well considering what I contended was that LA was far and away the flagship of the league .... You're being funny, right ....
Still, a 22 year head start and a crapload of silverware has to be worth something, no? The Galaxy is still going to have a non-zero number of fans who live closer to Exposition Park than to Carson who are going to continue to remain Galaxy fans. And if they return to their usual level competence, those folks will make the drive to Carson. And many predictions of LAFC's success are predicated on the assumption that they won't run around with their pants around their ankles in a manner reminiscent of Chivas USA. If Banc of California Stadium ends up being home to consistently bad soccer, that new stadium smell will wear off pretty quickly.
Total outsider view here but if there is one team/club/franchise that I would have thought would have earned enough "cred"/respect/loyalty to not lose fans just because someone built a new stadium in a "better" location for a new team it would be the Galaxy. KInda surprised there is as much debate about this as there is. Hopefully both clubs will thrive....but surprised the doubt seems to be on the Galaxy more than LAFC.
The Galaxy's lack of presence in L.A. is just shocking. On days that the Galaxy hosted and won MLS Cup, you can go 3 blocks from the stadium, and it's dead silence. Bars are either empty, or showing something else. The people who go to games care, but nobody else does. If LAFC elicits a different kind of reaction, the Galaxy are screwed :-(
5 of dc's trophies are non MLS. Dc's last MLS trophy was 2007 3 of galaxy's trophies are non MLS Galaxy's last MLS trophy was 2014. The fact that it is even being debated if galaxy are a flagship franchise or not is crazy. If galaxy are not a flagship team, then who is? Of all the crazy things people have argues with me on bs this is the craziest.
Can a team be a flagship team when it's own city doesn't care about it? HINT: no. Let me explain LA's relationship with the Galaxy and their winning. If your local rec park team won the city championship 5 timex in the last 20 years, would that make you even slightly more interested in seeing them? Just FYI the Galaxy have either the lowest or among the lowest number of people viewing their local broadcasts. In the second largest metro area in the United States. I can without a hint of trolling or sarcasm say that the future of this "flagship" team is not secure. They can be the San Diego Galaxy within 10 years.
And? So DCU has MORE International success than LA, and MORE overall success across ALL competitions that MLS clubs compete/have competed in ... .... you aren't doing yourself any favors. That's not what's being debated. I flat out stated what the point of contention was. That you can't grasp that, or keep it straight is what's crazy. Erm, so you honestly are asking if POR would put more butts in the seats in SEA than ..... well, anyone? Yikes.

NASL might be contracting their two finalists - San Francisco and the Cosmos. SF got a sad 3,586 to their semifinal match and now host the cosmos in the Soccer Bowl. I think there is a good chance that this will become the lowest attended Soccer Bowl of any NASL era. EDIT: Doing research. Atlanta had 3,218 for the first leg of a 3 game series in 1971. Won't be the lowest of modern era though because the Cosmos won in front of 2,150 last year. (I believe this was a sellout as Hofstra didn't let them host)
That is exactly what is being debated. Someone else's post started this and then you stepped in and decided you could change what was being debated. Sorry but that is not how it works and I am not going to back down. First post I responded to: LA Galaxy are a flagship MLS club, period, end of discussion. Again, continuing to try to state otherwise is insane. We are not talking about international cups. We are talking about M freaking LS. Galaxy have the most MLS trophies and have signed the most big name players. It is impossible for them to not be an MLS flagship club at this point in MLS history. I am not debating if they will always be, but at this point yes they absolutely are. I am not debating if LAFC can overtake them or not. Of course they can. Please stop.
Just think about how many thousands of times MLS has been accused of bending the rules in Galaxy's favor on this board alone.
No I'm saying that if they would open up more seats, they didn't for the Vancouver game and they haven't in the past and it would have been a Tuesday game.
Nobody's answered this question - how can the Galaxy be MLS' flagship club when it is being ignored by its local market? The Cowboys are the NFLs flagship club, but the Patriots are the team that always win. Why? Cowboys are super popular. Where is the Galaxy super popular?
