One of South America's most heated rivalry begins another chapter. This Wednesday, November 17th, at 8:00 pm. ET at the National Stadium in Lima, Peru will face Chile in what is known as "El Clasico del Pacifico". A lot of history between both countries makes this game a classic. Every time they meet, even in friendlies, the game goes to another level.

Peru comes into the game sitting at the bottom of the table with Bolivia and Colombia with 10 points, but with only a three point difference from the 4th place team. Peru needs to win all of its home games and a couple of games away in order to contend for a spot that would send them to Germany '06 or the play-off against the Oceania winner. Peru have only won one game, drawn two, and lost two at home. Out of a possible 15 points at home, Peru has only rescued 5. They've scored 6 goals and allowed 7 at home. Chile comes into the game sitting in 5th place with 13 points. Chile has rescued 7 points outside of Santiago. They have scored 6 goals and allowed 6 away from home. Chile will be without strikers Salas and Navia due to injuries. Peru will be without defenders Galliquio and Rebosio due to injuries. Peru has players with minor injuries in Solano, Soto, Jayo, and Pizarro, but they are likely to start. Chile won the first leg in Santiago 2-1.

From wars, to ships, to land, this game means a lot to both. Peru can't lose against Chile and Chile can't lose against Peru. Peru wins 2-1 :D Let's get it on!

while i really love the idea of the pisco war and the pacific battle and all of that, i hope the boys don't take it that way...of course, chorri is, being that he's one of the veterans that still thinks like that...

but i'd prefer to think that our team is going our for the 3 pts y punto to make it to the Mundial and not worry about this clasico...b/c all in all, even if it wasn't chile...this game is about winning, nothing else.

i hope the idea of playing chile doesn't drive our boys up the wall and also hope the anxieties doesn't fucq our shyte up...

dale peru, good luck to chile...may the better team win.

FIFA has sent officials to Lima that are experienced in fierce rivalries. FIFA considers this a "high-risk match". If things get out of hand, the game could be suspended or Peru could lose the points. Let's hope the people at the stadium behave.

it seems that among all the ctiticism being aimed at autori they have missed the fact that hes renovating the squad

so far hes blooded in the following players

    erick delgado - 22
    miguel villalata - 23
    walter vilchez - 22
    alberto rodriguez 20
    juan vargas - 21
juan carlos la rosa - 24
    luis hernandez - 23
    juan cominges - 21
    julio garcia - 23
    jefferson farfan - 20
    paolo guerrero - 20
    carlos orejuela - 24
    junior ross - 18

all of them have been called up surevthey havnt all played but at least they have been considered

he has started the renovation and it shows when rodriguez vargas and farfan are in the starting team against chile and villalta garcia and guererro will be on the bench

The stadium is practically full with less than 1,000 tickets to be sold in occidente. It's gonna be a nice scenery. Let's hope the win rounds up a great night.

with youngsters paolo guerrero and jefferson farfan coming up the ranks i have a hard time to imagine that carlos orejuela will ever be considered to put on a national team jersey again...

it would only be in case of extreme emergency

hopefully the success of paolo and jefferson in europe will inspire the other talented players from their generation like juan cominges, juan vargas, junior viza and so on...

Peru is coming into the game with the complete squad. Pizarro is not at a full 100% and Garcia has admitted some fatigue, but aside from that everything looks good. On the other hand, Chile is without Salas, Navia, Milosevic, and just recently Martel and Acuña.

i have high hopes of players like alberto rodriguez and walter vilchez

we need some good defenders coming up

it's sad that a team that have forwards like andres mendoza and paolo guerrero on the bench has to play with defenders who play in spain's second division and even have to fight for a place in the starting line up in their clubs

if only we would have defenders of the same quality as our attackers... :(

    http://www.tercera.cl/medio/articulo/0,0,3308_5804_99103728,00.html

the key will be the fullbacks

peru has been attacked trought the sides and our laterales have been exposed

if soto and vargas can keep their sides protected then we have a very good chance of winning
