I think Nationwide can sway this. If they want a stadium in Franklinton then it will happen. If they dangle national advertising at Don G then he will salivate and bite. It’s like a convulsion with him. It’s really all about the money here. If Columbus can show it then we have a chance.
I would agree. The big unknown here is what the hell is really going on in Austin. There's been very little news out of that city that implies that there's a lot of support for getting a stadium done, that corporate sponsorship has been lined up, etc. If there is a mammoth, extra double secret plan in place to get this done, then our path is a much, much steeper one, especially when you note all of the official MLS branding that's been attached to what's been going on in Austin. But the lack of news from TX, the premature manner in which this news broke, the reaction from San Antonio, and Precourt's absence of a track record in doing anything at all like this, does make me cautiously hopeful that he was intending on having this winter to get that work done down there. If his dastardly and nefarious plot was uncovered before it really had a chance to put down roots and, instead, results in a huge, unanticipated PR black eye for the league coupled with a 'massive' response from Columbus' business and political leadership, well, does that mean I owe Grant Wahl a beer?
The don is doing an interview on Yahoo....he answer to the Columbus question was shaded in non-answers. He corrected the phrase saying the team is not moving and does not want to move, but is exploring its options. He continued to repeat what we heard from the mayor about the meetings coming up. He also continued to blame the fans, and city, while doing his best attempt to defend Prec@nt.
Hunt Sports cannot grant Precourt or anyone else the right to move the team anyplace. And in fact they can't even grant him the right to move to Austin any more than they can grant him the right to move to Rochester or Timbuktu. Can't do it. The right to move a team can only be granted by the league, specifically the BoG. So let's be clear here: Precourt did not get the right to move to Austin from Clark Hunt. Clark Hunt has no power to grant MLS team relocation requests. Rather, the right to move to Austin TX - again, not "anyplace you want" but Austin TX - was put into that deal by the league. No one else can relocate a team. Now in fact what they really did was worse: the league PREAPPROVED a relocation of the Crew. Let's repeat that: ML has already approved moving the Crew to Austin. No owner can move anywhere without specific league approval. RedBulls can't relocate to Phoenix without asking league permission. Not even Don Garber can give you permission to move a team. Only a 2/3 vote ofthe owners can do that. But if that codicil is in the contract then the league has already made that determination. Otherwise it would be meaningless. No, it was not Clark Hunt. He can't even move his own team, let along give somebody else the right to move theirs. No, this was the league.

Get the ******** out. I may just order another ST. What is his handle? I activated a Twitter so I could hashtag. The moment Crew are saved (and the team will be!), I will be pushing the self-destruct button (deactivation).
You are not understanding me - HSG can waive the "10 year Columbus unless Austin clause" - opening the door for movement anywhere - of course pending the league approval. I understand that the BoG can slam that door shut. But HSG can open it.
I am now torn--now that the refund is being offered. My guess is that a fair amount of folks will take this option--which will essentially guarantee the team will have a low enough attendance to be able to move--assuming they don't leave early. Am I being too cynical in assuming that one reason for offering this refund is that they don't plan on being here in 2018 either?
Please do not immediately seek a refund. You have a window of time in which to do so. Lets keep the pressure up and continue to show that this city cares about its team.
I agree. Let's see how things play out. I am, however, going to unblock my credit card. If we get a home playoff game, I'm going. If only to let my feelings be known and say goodbye.
Seriously, what Zip said. I may need a punching bag after thinking about all of these turn of events and memos put out by his communications team. What a jackass.
Credit to my ticket guy who followed up immediately with a message of his own. Screwtape did at least hire some good folks.
I understand why someone would want a refund. I was and remain in the camp that will go to any Crew home games in the 2017 playoffs and 2018 regular season and playoffs no matter what (assuming those games are played), simply because I love the Crew. I also know that a continued (and hopefully increased) show of support will speak to those with the financial wherewithal to remove the Crew from the current peril and show them that it is worth it. He is trying to play us all again, we as Crew fans have to call his bluff, if we want to keep the team. If everyone wants to give up - I will not persuade you from taking the refund.
We just learned that our next year's season tickets will be refunded - but only if we request it in the next week. While I suppose I am pleased that we can get a refund, I guess I am a bit torn - What if our efforts are successful at saving the Crew? I suppose based on the comments and lack of comments I've heard from AP, DG, and the MLS - I better get the refund. But it hurts, because it flies in the face of my optimism................ Edit: Looks like this news already broke. Sorry. Dang this is a tough thread to keep up with....
Like others I might add 2 more seats to my season tickets and just hand them out to friends. They might give me a few dollars each time. Butts in seats damn it.
Just left my ticket rep a message that I will be keeping my seat and am interested in filling any new vacancies nearby.
