yup. if he were a stock he would be SELL, SELL, SELL!! shame too because he showed so much potential.
Tall keepers tend to do that. I remember Croatia's keeper in Brazil was tall and slow as hell to get down to shots on the ground. That's why Oscar scored the 3rd from so far out. That's why Rafa scored the 1st. I think Raul coulda done more on the 1st and 3rd goals.
No le tengo confianza a este muchacho. Think about how terrible those games are where you know the keeper is shit so you're clenching your ass any time the ball gets anywhere near the box. And then think about that keeper possibly being the starting GK for the NT for years to come. Gives me anxiety. Wish him well but I really dislike keepers who are slow to get down.
Kind of a small sample size to declare you don't feel confident in his abilities, no? This is one thing I don't understand. Who in the current GK pool for the NT is "fast" to get to the ground to deflect shots? Has it ever been a strength for Mexican GKs? If not, why is this a metric used against a young GK who is trying to make his way in Europe?
Kind of small, yeah. Who has been fast to get down. Oswaldo. IMO the best keeper we've had in recent times. From the current crop I don't think any of them are particularly bad at it. This guy seems genuinely slow to block low shots. If your only point is to wait and see how he develops, then sure point taken.
You just said Oswaldo was our best keeper in recent times. A goal keeper whose main attribute was reactionary saves. That is exactly my point.
I thought his main attribute was being shameless, asking the opposing team to stop trying, but that's just me.
In any case I don't understand why you think I can't critique a young keeper on a flaw that according to you every keeper in recent times had (since according to you that's the metric, even though there is no real reason it should be).
I pointed out that the sample size you’re basing your opinion on is rather small. I didn’t criticize your opinion. Obviously we remember Oswaldo differently if you think he was the best GK in recent times.
Fair enough for the first 2 sentences. Oswaldo had a short prime for a GK. A lot of his later career is filled with blunders but prime for prime, I think he's better than anyone in our current pool.
This. If anything he's had the weakest top form of all our recent World Cup goalkeepers. Oscar Perez 2002 form was better than Oswaldo at his best. Same with 90's Campos.
Actually I agree with most of this, I think Oswaldo's form was better than 2010 Conejo's form. Other than that, I see eye to eye with you.
I said top form. Obviously it's the same guy, (Oscar Perez) and his form at his best was in 2001-2002, which was better than Oswaldo's top form ever.
