When the Crew office was downtown across from the Convention Center, I was going in to get tickets and Lamar Hunt was walking out and held the door open for me. I thanked him for his work and for bringing soccer here. Pleasant person and offered a hand shake and a thank you. Pretty sure that building is a pile of rubble now. Another footnote I guess.
Get him two. He is soon to have a newborn. Congratulations, again, Drew for convincing your adorable wife to both marry you and carry your child.
Cleaning Man at Flophouse: [damaged skin on the Terminator is rotting from gangrene while looking through Sarah's address book] Hey, buddy. You got a dead (Crew) cat in there, or what? [the Terminator visualizes: 'POSSIBLE RESPONSE: YES/NO; OR WHAT?; GO AWAY; PLEASE COME BACK LATER; **** YOU, ******E; **** YOU'] The Terminator: **** you, *******.
I'm hearing what some others had said about the other owners in the league being absolutely livid about this whole mess, even Clark is privately said to be very pissed - so the idea that AP could get 2/3’rds of the owners to go along with this relocation is pretty laughable, especially in light of the financial hit they'd all take with not being able to award San Antonio an expansion franchise and everyone getting a chunk of that change. BUT the big wildcard is Garber and his ability to supersede any vote of the owners per MLS "rules" - something someone needs to dig in to a bit more...
The idea that attendence is the issue is a lie. Prec@nt said he started exploring the move in 2016. 2016 was our best attendence year since he took over, if I am reading it right.
Thanks, he's due 1/15. I was hoping to begin sharing the highs and lows of Crew supporters culture this upcoming year with him until all of this crap about the team moving came down.
Yes. And we all know that. It's more about getting that out in the light of day so that everyone else knows. I think Precourt thought this was going to be easy. He talked to Don, and Don was gonna hold his hand through it. It might still be easy, given the weird machinations at MLS HQ. But he'll at least be a bit bloodied and bruised.
Nope--still there. HER offices now I think... Yep--googlemaps confirm. Next to one of our former favorite restaurants, 89 Fish and Grill (which has been closed for some time--at least a year--awaiting the new Jeff Ruby Steakhouse)
You know, in some ways this means that we're really a big city now. We've been officially scr*wed by a rich, absentee owner.
That’s a good date. That’s my son’s birthday. He’ll be 2. My wife is a NYRB fan, but it’s always my yellow Crew hat with the original logo that he grabs for out of my hat bin. Hat number two is my orange Browns hat with the Brownie. The kid is in for a world of sports disappointment the way it’s going.
Attendance comes in many forms. Building a new stadium to hold the same people who currently attend Crew games and maybe a 20% increase in their numbers due to the fresh new stadium likely isn't enough to put $200M into it. That's one thing I side with Precourt on. A new glitzy stadium needs commitment from suite holders, VIP lounges, field boxes, not $30 walk up buyers or $500 season ticket packs. The business, media and political communities have not been great friends to the Crew, started with Lamar way back when and hasn't changed much. Now, blame can certainly be laid at Precourt's feet for not actively and aggressively trying to change that. We seem to know now why that is now, unfortunately. He's making money now, not truckloads, but profitable. He could keep the team at Mapfre stadium until the lease runs out in '24 with no extra funds and make money. But to really launch into MLS 3.0 territory a new stadium is needed. Hopefully his idiocy in how he's maneuvered this lights a fire under the local power-players and Precourt can be forced out and those players can make a go of it. But, I'm very skeptical that the Crew remain here if Precourt isn't ousted in some way.
I'm trying to imagine Polaris traffic with a new Crew Stadium there. At least you wouldn't have to worry about paying for parking as you would have to abandon your car on I-71 and walk to make it to the game on time.
Pretty sure the building next to the Jeff Ruby is rubble as of yesterday when I was downtown for lunch.
I love the fact T Bone from 97.1 is on our side. Media personalities like him are huge to have on our side
Ah--ok. Wasn't the last time I was there--but that was last Jackets season, I think. Is Jeff Ruby open yet?
It is nice. Too bad Bob Connors isn't still alive--he was a big soccer supporter--before it was popular and before the Crew (he would regularly have Xoggz folks on his show). However, the deals are being made in NYC and they have no idea who T-Bone is and could care less about Columbus media. What Lalas, McB and Ale are saying may be far more important.
