The point of a downtown is that it is more easily accessible for everyone from all parts of town. Easton traffic is horrible.
I do think the, at the end of the day, what we will get from Garber is ... ... less. I think the city will get the name and IP rights and trophies. They are of no value to the league and will make the league look good. There will be a vague promise that "if you build a stadium, we will consider you". And 30 years from now there will be a small display in the corner of the Ohio History Connection with MLS Cup, a McBride jersey and a picture of Dos e Cero--and if you are there with you grandchild, they will ask "what's that, Grandpa(ma)?"
When The Limited goes out of business.... Seriously though--Champions Golf Course. And it looks like, from Google Maps, that some of the old Shrine site is still available
If any of you already posted this video, then my apologies for re-posting this media. That being said, if you need a good cry this morning (my younger brother apparently believed I needed one), then watch this video: #SaveTheCrew #mls #Crew96 #CrewSC @wil_trapp pic.twitter.com/1Q3zP8CflO— Kevin Peterson (@peterkevinson) October 20, 2017 If this Tweet was any of you, then I thank you. Water works city. By the way, I tried to properly embed this tweet. I really did try. Well it seems after my attempts at success, I was successful. Good.
From a completely selfish standpoint, I would love this location since I would be able to ride my bike to the stadium from my house.
I didn't post it here, but I RT'd it there. Though it took me a while to find the button through the sobbing.
Eh I know everyone has always hated this idea, further I know Precourt would never go for it. But for one last time if the team was going to get any help from the city I think you need to look at some place that would actually help the city not just be what is best for the team. The area is still completely screwed right now as far as I've read. The mall is a vacant hole and the Casino isn't enough of a draw to lure the high end hotel they wanted to attract to go near it. Is it Franklinton, The Arena District, or Easton? Hell no, Will you all hate the idea? I'm sure you will. But I've never been able to think of another area in Columbus where I actually think the city would have a reason to help, a majority of the people in the area wouldn't be against it, and there is enough land.
League would not go for it, I think--and I cannot blame them as their business model is not urban renewal.
Maybe? I live up off of Route 3 in the Westerville Crossing neighborhood. The Alum Creek Bike Trail runs right behind the neighborhood and down to Easton.
Actually it's pretty much exactly what the original KC plan was before 2008 happened. They were going to build on the site of the demolished Bannister Mall; I believe it's now an office park.
I'm not yet able to see silver linings in this whole mess, but I will say this - It will be a very long time before I take this team for granted again. See everyone Sunday!
If, BIG IF, the Massive Report story posted this am is true about a 75 million dollar bid being rejected for a HALF stake in the franchise that's a very big deal. Precourt has repeatedly said there were "no serious" offers for the team. $75 million for a half stake is serious. Now, of course, Precourt has every right to shoot down that offer. PSV owns 100% of Columbus Crew, and why would you want to go down to half if you didn't half to. But the narrative that Precourt AND Garber are pushing is that there is not enough backing in Columbus. That there is no interest from the business community or the city. When you are offered more than what you paid 4 years ago for the full franchise, for just a half stake...that narrative starts to crumble a bit. The question is whether Garber knew all this already and didn't care, or whether this is new information to him as well. Either way, the Precourt/Garber narrative is going off the rails.
