100% agree. A lot of fans live off the "we have so many up and coming players" that media outlets love to sell them forgetting that currently this is one of the least talented US teams in the past decade. I feel sorry for Pulisic. A young star who had a chance to carry his team at the WC. BTW I never like Honduras enjoying any type of success. Disgusting anti fair play team and I would have preferred having that playoff spot to the US. Absolutely despise them.
I think the whole bringing in old ass players from Europe and bringing them into the league is the reason why the USMNT is what it is. No true bred national talent just a watered down league with no true talent. US soccer needs to export not import. D. Beasley has been used for like 4 or 5 WC processes. No new players, same old players from every single year.
We are in a dearth of talent right now, despite what the media says. I know we had a few key injuries but had essentially the same roster we had nearly a decade ago with the only guys who could have replaced them being only arguably better. The coaches could have done more with a hungrier, less talented crew but it's not like we have half a dozen Pulisics who were unnoticed. FFS, Clint Dempsey has been on the team so long his career can nearly vote and he was the one with the biggest fight tonight. But if we really had a large crew of up and coming players someone of Dempsey's age should've been forced to the bench already.
The next time we need advice on how to run our country I'm sure we'll consult a cartel-led cocaine factory, but we're good for now, friendo. P.S. We wouldn't have elected that donkey to build a wall between us if your country was nice enough people weren't trying to escape it like it was Alcatraz all the time.
The only positive thing we can have out of all this fiasco is that we will never see Arena, Bradley, Dempsey, Omar Gonzalez, Wondo, hopefully Zardes, Howard....i can go on and on! They were playing the first half like if they were qualified directly already. Did it ever occur to them that Honduras and Panama could win their games and a possibility they could lose to T n T? No major tournaments until 2019 Gold Cup and 2020 Copa America. Hopefully by then the new coach gives the youth a chance to shine. The only good players are Pulisic and Yedlin. Bring in fresh meat for next friendlies leading up to Gold Cup.
I agree with everything in here except Dempsey. Dempsey and Pulisic were the only two on the field who were playing hard and making me proud.
Gulati's head gonna rolled. He just cost major US corporations hundreds of millions dollars. He's a done man.
You can always consult with you Russian overlords first. Over phone though, since you won't be flying to them in person anymore. The wall could serve a purpose though. You can always kick a ball at a wall and make it bounce back when you have no one to play with.
Dempsey is old. And in two years, when he would be needed again, he will be older. We need to start thinking for 2022 and anyone past 30 are of no use.
Exactly what I’ve been thinking all night. Hell, even Wood doesn’t look like he’s progressed like we hoped he would. There’s definitely part of me that feels like we are glorifying the teenagers too much because the senior team has been so disappointing. There’s also part of me that thinks the real problem with the senior team is that we are playing the wrong players. I’m not going to go into a rant like many on BS about how Juan Agudeo should start (he shouldn’t), but I never even considered a guy like Kellyn Rowe and he showed pretty well at the Gold Cup imo. Also, guys like Kljestan, Feilhaber, Walker Zimmerman, Matt miazga, etc. all did well in cameos, yet Bruce and Jurgen clung to what wasn’t working just because it was familiar. I really think the problem is we had 2 coaches who screwed up. Even with the roster that was in TNT tonight, we easily could’ve qualified with a different look and some actual desire.
That's one thing that was missing from both JK and Arena was that our coaches always seemed to take a roster and get something from it that was more than the sum of its parts. This cycle nothing of the sort happened. I can agree with this, I just thought you were excited about not seeing Dempsey again. To me, it's just kinda sad. He's the last one left that had the fire inside of him besides Pulisic.
Just cuz Bruce sucked doesn’t mean Jurgen didn’t. He got no points in two games in the hex. Stop glorifying him. The guy lost to fn Guatemala
Low quality + injuries but I agree with this tbh. Mexico has very good players right now, so I'm not even taking anything away from them. I think they can do well next year. I also think that guys like Gatt, Gyau, Holden, AJ all having their careers ********ed over is just too many in one generation for us to get over.
Feel bad for you guys, I was rooting for you and I'm frustrated that we couldn't get at least the tie in Honduras who were the ones I wanted out. Hopefully, however, this is the wake up call that you need. Agree with a lot in here that the US hasn't showed any progress in the last 4 cycles while other teams in the region have considerably improved in part thanks to MLS. Central American and Caribbean teams used to have a bigger player base playing in their respective leagues, and now they have more players in MLS, which is a more competitive league, making their players better. I think maybe the opposite has happened with US players. As in the last years they have came back from more competitive leagues in Europe to MLS which is clearly below their levels, making them decrease their competitiveness. This should (but won't) be an alarm for Mexico too, as I think is worrying that 3 of our best and relatively young players have joined MLS in the last year (Dos Santos, Dos Santos and Vela), and it's very clear from Gio that his level has dropped considerably.
Yeah, but fair credit to them, they tried. An OG from us, a fluke goal off of Memo's face, a non-goal from Panama, they all sucked but we should have been in control of our own destiny.
Mexico and Costa Rica were qualified. All the US needed was a freaking tie against a team that only won one game and lost 8 and still the US couldn't deliver. If we depend on others to do the work for us, it's better just not to go to the WC. With this current team, in all honesty, I didn't see them past the group stage. My hope was that once qualified, Arena will call in new young players to take to the WC. Players like McKinnie, Jonathan Gonzalez, Tyler Adams, even if those young players don't get you to the next round they would have had experience at a young age in a WC.
You think a guy that believes “I believe an American should be coaching the national team. I think the majority of the national team should come out of Major League Soccer. The people that run our governing body think we need to copy what everyone else does, when in reality, our solutions will ultimately come from our culture.” Was going to call in mainly European based players and not MLS tryhards?
