Burton Albion are limping going into their tie vs United. Plus, one of their summer signings, John Brayford, is cup tied and will not feature. www.ibtimes.co.uk/john-brayford-cup-tied-manchester-united-trip-burton-albion-relish-special-week-1639811
Gomes should be on the bench. Romero Darmian Smalling Lindelof Shaw Carrick Herrera Mata Lingard Martial Rashford
I like it. The back line is spot on, Carrick definitely needs some work and Herrera needs work. The only question that arises is with the front 4 but even then this looks pretty obvious. The only quarrel, if one had to be found, would be starting Darmian over Tuanzebe, but in the end it has to be Darmian.

Jose has confirmed today that Dave, Valencia, Bailly and Matic will all be rested, yet he will take this competition seriously. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-fixtures-jose-mourinho-13642950
I'm hoping Lukaku gets a rest as well. He will burn out like Pogba did last year if he continues to play 90 minutes every game.
We have a deeper squad now than we did last season, during which time we won three trophies. Three players who are currently out with injury will fill out the roster quite nicely when they return: Ibrahimovic, Rojo and Tuanzebe. I assume, due to media reports, that Shaw will be back very soon, if not today. But it is true we are without Memphis, thus potentially shattering any dreams we might have of winning a domestic cup.
I'd hope he gets rest as well, but I'm not that concerned with him because I imagine at some point Ibra will be giving him some breaks either at the ends of games or even the occasional full night off.
Duty calls me to Los Angeles today with no plausible path toward a television during the game. May Teso continue to be denied the United defeat he’s been dreaming of months.
Nobody should ever be surprised that Shaw doesn't start. Despite what Jose says in public, he clearly doesn't rate Shaw at all.
The team practically picks itself given how many senior players we have in need of game time. Mata is really the only slight surprise inclusion since he's the one guy included who doesn't need the time (Rashford also counts I guess, but he's the only backup 9 we have and could use games there). I assume that mean's he's being dropped for the weekend (presumably with Herrera coming in).
If he actually does not rate him at all, then it really compounds his failure to look for another LB in the summer. Even if he is still somewhat not fully match fit, it simply does not make sense that he can't start him, especially after he's logged 2 full games with the U23s. He may start him vs Soton or CP, but today looked like a great opportunity to give him a game.
