Games like this highlight our lack of depth in some positions.

I would hope Tuanzebe and Carrick get some minutes. Wilson too.

Tuanzebe did not go anywhere. He needs to be in the 18, possibly start this week.

José will not play Blind in his natural midfield role. he won't start both Blind and Shaw. it will be either or

    where did that come from??

We've got 3 matches in the span of a week, with a trip to Moscow to boot following this one. Not that we're talking about resting guys yet, but Jose will want to insure as many as his players to be fresh for that little stretch.
I expect more changes, with our fringe players to be involved in this one.

Think we might see Axel start with Shaw's fitness suspect but this is about right.

The team I expect to see for this game:

    Romero
    Darmian. Smalling. Lindelof. Shaw
    Carrick. Herrera
    Lingard. McTominay. Martial
    Wilson

Subs: JP, Tuanzebe, Blind, Fellaini, Rashford, plus 2

This is a team which offers a good mix of youth and experience. It provides a game and minutes to the likes of Romero, Darmian, Smalling, Lindelof, Carrick, Herrera, and Lingard, who haven't played much so far.
Martial deserves his start. Unless he relapsed or suffered from a mystery injury, Shaw is fit and good to go (played the full 90 in 2 consecutive games for the U23s).
The bench does provide some options as well, in case they are needed.

This shouldn't be close regardless of who's chosen to start.

Key will be Shaw putting in a solid performance. If there is a pre-Moreno Luke Shaw in those boots somewhere that would be a massive, massive lift to the squad.

Wilson is fit again and has been a regular for the U23 team. He's a registered player with the club. Why wouldn't he be eligible to play?
And he does have an actual jersey, he's #29...

i can't see it. Martial probably starts as the 9. there's been no indication Wilson is even remotely in the plans.

it sucks because of his injuries but it is what it is. it's a nice thought but probably nothing more than that

The issue is our lack of attacking depth. Without Lukaku I would assume Rashford goes to #9 with Martial starting on the left. That leaves us with no alternative on the bench until Ibrahimovic returns. A game like this is a chance to see what level Wilson is at post-injury and if he could do a job. It is pointless to keep him around instead of a loan or sale if he has no use.

Folks are delusional if they think Jose will play kids. He's going to play Herrera andFellaini or Matic and he might play Rash/Martial as a 9, but that's it. The rest will be first xi or rotation like Smalling.

Wilson, at worst, should be in the 18. But as noted, this game is a perfect testing ground to establish where he is in his recovery. He's getting to the age where the club will have to decide what to do with him on a long term basis.
Ideally though, he starts and at worst Rashford can be on standby on the bench, in case he's needed. But as far as possibly establishing some much needed depth upfront, this is a win-win situation, the way I see it...

Last meeting was 06 FA Cup.
0-0 draw (A); 5-0 United win in the replay at OT.

Rossi scored a brace and DS swooned.

I'd love to see Wilson play and this may be the only realistic chance he gets a start this season with the first team, but I can't see it happening.
