How is it that we're also having a U19 match on the same day with Basel? U19s: HT - #MUFC 1 FC Basel 1. United took the lead through Aidy Barlow but Afimico Pululu's chip means we're level at Leigh Sports Village.— Manchester United (@ManUtd) September 12, 2017
In a straight choice between the 2, hopefully Martial gets the nod. And especially, if the game is still close in the 2nd half, bring him on for some fresh legs. Ideally though for me, I'd want both players to start on each flank. Aware that simply won't happen, but that would be my choice. Either way, I would bet money on Rashford getting one today.
No it's not. And if Jose knows one thing, it's how to play the CL. And we have CL experienced players.
Young gets the start? Good news, as he's pretty reliable when fit. But what a hamstring pull it must have been to be out for 4-5 months.
Well, it would be great to have a "real", right fullback. Valencia has done a job and Young will do a job tonight, but Darmian has been a disappointment so far. We have two promising right backs on the books -- Fosu-Mensah and Tuanzebe -- who are being developed as CBs. As for left fullback, we'll see what young Luke has left in his boots soon enough. We'll get through this season as we are, but hopefully next summer we can shore up our fullbacks.
Jose returning to the 4-2-3-1 that has served United so well so far. Herrera not even in the squad is amid surprise. But my guess is that if he's not hurt, he will saved for Everton and the coming games. Carrick is in the team after all. Have full confidence that AY should get the job done done: if ther is anything to worry about, it would be rustiness. Hopefully though, that will have been partly been taken care of in his U23 appearances.
I knew Young wasn't far off. Shaw isn't either most likely I would expect him to start in the Carling Cup later this month. Valencia needs a rest after an away game and being in South America with Ecuador. Gald Martial is starting, he needs to perform.
Nice to see young back, very surprised not to see Ander included at all. Wonde if Jose is saving him for Everton?

Same here. When Fellaini and Lingard make the squad and Herrera doesn't, it better be an injury problem a family bereavement situation and not an issue of selection.
With Carrick and Fellaini (as the defensive and more offensive options respectively in midfield today), Herrera is really not needed, if he was not going to start. Matic has featured in every game so far, and as much as I don't want to use the term "rest" for him so early in the season, there is every reason to believe that Herrera will spell him a lot in the next few weeks. Not going to be overly worried as of yet: lots of games coming up and many opportunities for him to play.
This team should be adequat to get through the job at hand. Not happy about herrera and would have played darmian but this should be enough to get 3 points in the bag.
Seems extremely strange to rest your starting RB (who often wears the captain's armband) in a game where both starting CBs are missing through suspension. I would've thought his leadership and experience would've been prized by Jose given the other absences. And given the weakness in the backline switching back from the 3-man midfield counts as a surprise as well in my book. Don't know how much Basel will offer going forward but I would be very nervous with this selection against even a mid-table Premier League side. If they have quality they will create chances.
