BBC World Service radio just led off their news round-up with something like: "In America, DC United is celebrating their record 5th MLS championship." That put a smile on my face... MLS press!
Good to know we've got next year locked up, as well. We might as well start calling it Formality Frisco.
I'm glad I didn't stop delivery of the paper for the trip out here. I think I'll keep tomorrow's copy forever!
Re: Wise: United on Top of Its Game (Post Front Page) here's another error: Yallop played for the Mutiny, didn't he?
Re: Wise: United on Top of Its Game (Post Front Page) Yeah, that Wise guy is a great writer. [hint hint]Someone should buy a couple copies of tomorrows Post and sell them on Ebay for those of us with no access to the paper.[/hint hint]
Re: Wise: United on Top of Its Game (Post Front Page) If someone can pick up an extra copy for me I will gladly pay them for it, and shipping.
Schmid on MLSNet.com http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20041114&content_id=19139&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp He gives some credit to the DCU fans at the game for causing a momentum shift:
Re: Wise: United on Top of Its Game (Post Front Page) Hey, college kid - buy the Post from the box - but just take ONE Then, you can open a little cottage industry.
Re: Wise: United on Top of Its Game (Post Front Page) I think it was supposed to be that Nowak was the first guy to win a championship as both a player and a coach.
Ryan Nelsen on what it means to bring a championship back to D.C: "This means absolutely everything. The fans are definitely the best in the league. I am not just saying that, because every team says that. Our fans are by far the best fans. They have had some tough times over the past few years, and they deserve this." Sigged
United's Moreno Reaches Out, Touches Someone http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A50050-2004Nov14.html -Whoa, This story had me reaching for the tissues at my desk. That was really great of Jaime to dedicate his season to Danilo Diron who has cancer. On another sort of press related. The survey on the front page of Washingtonpost.com - who do you think will bering the next Championship to DC? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/polls/sports//united_111504.htm Last time I checked the suvey had the Caps at 75% and DCU at 24%. The $%##^^ CAPS!?!?!?! Hockey is in a lockoput an people think the Caps will win the next championship in DC?
Not exactly. When I went to bed last night ~3AM, a total of 2 people had voted for the Caps. This morning, the numbers are almost the same as they were last night for everyone except the Caps, who suddenly have 5870 more votes than they did. In other words, nobody thinks anything; some Caps fan wrote a script to stuff the box (and spoof IPs). Don't worry about it.
anyone else notice that the washington times didn't even bother to send a staff member to LA to cover the game? they picked up a stringer's report.
Yeah, I saw that in the daily roundup that GPK puts together. The stringer did 2 stories, while the Boston Herald staff writer also did 2 stories.
Mike, If you have a tape of the game, watch the post-game celebration. You got a good 3-5 seconds on National TV.
