A month ago, I thought this game had a pretty good chance of deciding who would win the West. Now it feels like a must win game just to keep our head above wildcard water.

One of the more concerning stats: SKC has not had a shutout since July 11th against Dallas in the USOC, and our last shutout in the regular season was June 17th in a 0-0 draw at San Jose. To find our last regular season shutout at home, we have to go back to June 3rd against Minnesota. In 7 of our last 9 regular season games, we've given up exactly 1 goal.

Shouldn't be any injuries or suspensions for this one, pending DisCo.

And this was my big concern when we didn't sign another goal scorer. Our defense is still one of the best in the league, but we're "regressing" a bit back to the average in the league. With our level of goal scoring we're incredibly reliant on our back line, and we're not going to go out and pitch a shutout every time, meaning we're going to have to score goals and I struggle to see where that comes from with some consistency.

At least it has a chance of being a fairly open home game. That means we might see Rubio and Salloi in enough space to feel comfortable again, which is unfortunately their weakness right now.

Which nicely coincides with Opara's concussion.
This team really needs a consistent goal threat. This season, Dom wasn't that guy for us, though I think Buzz is right that he took so much attention that it opened the game for others. Still, this season has the feel of one that now is about the Open and making the playoffs

57 min mark and I have heard Lobato's name twice...hell I didn't see the starting line up and it took me 40 min to realize he was even on the field

He's been good. Had a really good strike that Gonzalez batted away.

I saw his strike I just wish we was more involved if he's going to be in the starting 11.

    That was satisfactory.

I thought Lobato had a very nice game. Medranda was a beast and it will be hard to supplant him at left back if he keeps playing that well. Gerso had his mojo back, the benching was good for him. Well played all around, but Dallas' attacking prowess has just evaporated over the past month. Did we inject them with our historic August swoon virus?

That was a really fun game. Was so worried we were going to drop points late again until Gerso's stunner. Huge three points.

We are a team to be reckoned with come MLS playoffs. that was a really strong showing. we were simply better than Dallas.
It was great to see the spring back in Gerso's step, and he was smiling again while playing, not looking overwhelmed.
Sinovic has been really good this year, but I think he might have lost his place. In general this season, I've thought we're better with Medranda on the field. But I wasn't thinking Sinovic needed to be replaced, at all.
Salloi looks better every week. With his quick trigger, when he adds strength to his game he could be a beast.
Without Dom, our front line options are very nice right now. We can mix and match and be effective, as long as Gerso keeps his mojo we've got no worries going forward.
So when EPB came on for the final bit, was that not a 4-3-3? 5-3-2, or 442? Look at us, all verstatile.
Also, Dallas has some very nice talent in the attack, and we were smothering them all night. I loved the reaction from their take Ilie out of the play tactic. Benny took over, and Ilie used his shadow to ruin their shape with movement.
    great game

I think Sinovic has his place, especially on the road where we're not going to be able to get forward as much from our outside backs. Medranda still struggles in a "defense first" mindset that we have a bit more of on the road. That said I think someone here mentioned Sinovic on the road and Medranda at home and I don't really have a problem with that.

Didn't get to go last night, did anything happen in stadium for the 100 game sellout?

Good to see Gerso look like he had his head back on straight. He and rubio both had excellent goals that should give some confidence. And lobato was definitely invisible for stretches, but looked dangerous when the ball did find him. Hopefully time helps his understanding and he can become more involved. Salloi looked dangerous all night to me.

Nice to see a clean sheet again. But i didnt realize that Dallas' offense has been so poor of late, so perhaps not quite as big as I originally thought. And I love Seth, but I gotta agree that medranda just offers more going forward, and should probably be getting more time in games where we aren't planning on being defensive as often.

It's crazy how tight the west is. I don't think there's much of a chance anyone takes the shield from an unreal toronto at this point, but it could be a wild run to the finish for playoff position.

Yes, they recognized all the STH (accounts) that had been to all 100 of those games. Other season ticket holders unveiled an on field display that advertised the 100th sell out. Fans could use the Uphoria app to potentially win discounts with a scratcher contest.

Dallas hasn't been scoring, but their shot production and sog isn't that far off their season pace, and they've been good this year. I think it's still a side you have to be on top of your game to stifle. they are going to break out and get it flowing again, so credit to us to not allowing them that opening.
on your last point, this gets at one of the few things that really bothers me about the MLS season setup. Why are we heading into the final quarter of the season with a gap of 3 in games played? I get that early on, the CCL screws us up a bit. But shouldn't MLS have straightened this out by the stretch run? we're alone in first, but two other clubs could tie us, and one could pass us, if they win their games in hand.
But on your point, TFC looks like they should be clearing space for a SS right now.

I sit fairly close to the SKC bench where I like to see what PV does during the run of play. The fact is that he was on Medranda's case nearly all game long, so much so that I thought he was going to bust a blood vessel in his neck. Jimmy was naturally inclined to push in toward the center of the field which left a lot of space down the line for FCD to exploit. PV kept yelling at him to get wide, both on the defensive side of the ball and on the counter back up the field. Either way, I thought Medranda did well reading the flow of play and getting the job done, but I know he had a hard time concentrating with PV yelling at him most of the game.

Despite the man marking of Ellie, I didn't think Benny was at his creative best last night.

I thought overall we tackled the ball extremely well last night. So many well timed challenges I completely lost count. Medranda in particular might have saved an equalizer late.

I agree Lobato was invisible and am a bit puzzled at the kudos going his way. Glad to give him some time though, as this has got to be a big adjustment, and he does show so flashes. Really just want to see more movement out of him at this point.

I didn't think Salloi had a very good second half, but during the first half I kept thinking about the attacking presence that Salloi was bringing... I kept thinking to myself 'man, whatever the opponent, this guy needs to be in our XI'. It kind of reminded me of Zusi breaking through in 2011. But then he scuffed a toe poke sitter in the second half.

when gerso turned toward goal instead of the corner flag, i started getting pissed. i was thinking, "great, we're gonna take a stupid shot and give them the ball back to cough up two more points in the final minutes again. if this SOB is gonna take a shot here, he sure as hell better make it count." well, he made that shot count, and that should be a tremendous boost to his confidence. this doesn't change my opinion about what should be done in that instance, but i'm certainly pleased with the result.

Man, I thought I was a paranoid fan. To be fair to him, there were a full four minutes left in added time. If he'd run into the corner, he was never going to burn that up.

Yeah I dislike the move to the corner too early, cause you're not really going to kill that much time doing it, and usually will lose the ball anyway.

i'd only consider it too early if there's more than 5 min left. anything less than that is when i want time wasting tactics employed.

    Midwest, the real one.
About a minute before that, Rubio had a chance to step into the box on the dribble. For some reason, he pulled it back and tried to draw a foul. The ref didn't go for it, he hadn't been calling that stuff all game.

I say when you get a chance to get into the box, it forces defenders into tough decisions and keepers to make saves.

I sort of agree. Except I think in this case it was less about killing clock and more about being exhausted.
